Be very careful using this -- make sure you have the proper grass type -- the label states to not use this on St Augustine.

Also, the active herbicide 2,4-D should not be used when temperatures are above 85 degrees otherwise it could harm the desirable grass.

I've used this product with really good effect, but I agree that it's very important to follow the label instructions. The weed killer part of this won't work if you apply when the grass is dry. It has to be wet so the weed killer portion sticks to the weeds and kills them off.

With that said, it's already late in the season for northern lawns with cool season grass to apply. It's not beneficial to push a lot of quick growth during the hot summer months.

This works well on northern lawns to kill weeds but you HAVE to follow instructions and apply when the grass is slightly wet and when it won't rain for 24 hours. Also this kind won't stop new weeds from coming up so I wouldn't bother with this one

This seems to go into the $30ish range every year, at several stores. I can't remember ever paying full price, just snag one for the next year each year, no sense in stocking up. Last year I got a 15K sqft bag from Walmart for $17. I wish their other fertilizers were price slashed routinely like weed and feed. Also wish Sam's club carried 15K bags instead of 14K for every fertilizer step.

Around November time, price drops to $10-$11 range. Last year, Lowe's had them for $11 for 40lbs.
Works really well on my lawn.
I live in MD.

If you buy things out of season (or rather, for a different "step" is recommended by scotts for the time of year) you can save massive $$. The winterizer bag was literally $3 for 40+lb back in the spring. You can use any "step" is fertilizer in place of the other and it works fine (save for stuff like weed killer or preemergent).

The ONLY stuff that I can't substitute is the new grass fertilizer (with phosphorus). That was clearanced two years ago but haven't seen it since. Needed for over-seeding.

It's a pretty good product.

However consider it harms bees by killing clover and pollutes the water ways causing things such as algae blooms that kill aquatic life. IMO not with the trade off.
