Playing this on switch is pretty rough. Very long load screens and frame rate chugs often. About 2-4 minutes of load screen if you die, which add up if you are at a difficult part. I ended up giving up on it because of the performance and got it on ps4. $20 is a great price, but with that comes a lot of frustration.

Don't do it. All of the reviews talk about performance issues on the Switch. If Switch is absolutely the only platform you have access to, then sure do it, but if you have a PC or one of the other consoles use that platform. Witcher III is like a fine wine and playing it on Switch is like drinking it out of a dirty sippy cup.

Just got it, currently playing it handheld. This is a great portable beast of a game for Switch. The graphical downgrade and long load times(initial 1 min load from main menu or to fast travel) might deter some, but the essence of The Witcher 3 core gameplay and amazing story still remains intact. Though its mostly a resolution downgrade along lower res textures, playing it handheld hides it well due to the display size. We still get graphics extras like reflections, light shafts, and ambient occlusion which is insane for this pc port. Having cloud saves transfer between Switch and PC makes this a must if you want to invest. Switch for portability playing in bed then loading your save on pc or big tv is amazing and seamless. Note that saves only transfer between editions with the same dlc, so base transfers to base and dlc transfers to complete edition. Haven't tried docked yet but heard its not the greatest experience compared to console/pc. Cdprojectred included couple of graphics options to tweak things like anti-aliasing and sharpening if some people find it too blurry or too sharp or just like to tweak things on the fly. Lowering foliage density option also gives extra fps, making it nearly stable 30fps. I play it with medium foliage, low sharpening, and antialiasing off for handheld with rest graphics options on. Check out the YouTube video posted by Digital Foundry on the Switch version of Witcher 3 for more image quality and performance comparisons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e...rlr0&t=63s

This is an all time low price for the Switch version. I would buy but my backlog is too big as it is. Thanks for sharing!

Complete edition is also $30, matching the January low price.

Are you playing on a g1 switch? On my OLED I've experienced nothing to that degree. A bit Slow sure. But that's the trade off for portability.

Good to know. I'm gonna pass on this one. I can't play anything under 30fps these days.

I sort of wonder if you played this before several patches that have been released. I played through the entire campaign and all the DLC with no problems. Now, obviously, if you are used to the PC version with beautiful MODS, this looks like complete potato. And if you plan to play this on TV, do NOT buy this version. It actually looks pretty damn good on the handheld and is MIRACULOUS that they fit it all on there. Also, the cloud saves allow you to play on the go, and then upload and continue playing where you left off on your PC. I think it's easily the best game I played on my Switch. And while I do agree that the load times can be annoying if you die a lot, they aren't really that bad. Framerate rarely, if ever bothered me and it was certainly completely playable at all times.

For anyone on the fence about playing this on Switch or console -- it IS usable on Switch, but if you are playing on a larger screen, go for the console if you can, instead of a Switch wired to TV display. And stepping up from PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5 does improve things a lot (same with One X, X S, Series X, man, Microsoft has confusing names...)

Also there is some news that a "next-gen" [theverge.com](meaning PS5 and Series X remaster) is scheduled for late this year (Q4 2022) but since it's a video game release date, who knows when it will actually be. (these are the same people behind Cyberpunk and they said they'll never do that mistake again....)

Do not experience this wonderful game on switch unless you have absolutely no other option. It should have never been ported in this state.
