I've have the other airpods (several as they do wear out) for years and finally got these - they are my favorites - they charge incredibly fast, have good sound and longer battery life. Plus they actually show up on the iPhone the you open the case, just like they are supposed to do.
Yes, my AirPods Pro automatically connects to my Samsung Note phone. I usually keep mine at home since I mainly use the AirPods Pro with my Apple TV 4K, which is the best earbuds to use with. Amazing sound when paired together, love watching movies and tv shows with the AirPods Pro. I tried my other earbuds and they are not as good with the Apple TV 4K. My Sony XM4 earbuds and Samsung Galaxy Buds Live mainly stays in the office since they are not as good as the AirPods Pro with the Apple TV 4K. Sony XM4 sounds better overall with Android phones and has better active noise canceling. Ambient Sound mode or Transparency mode is better with AirPods Pro.
Gen 2 coming this year just an FYI. These still work well but they are 3 years old (they added magnets to the case this year but the rest is the same as before).
Of course, Gen 2 isn't gonna launch at $170, so it's really a matter of whether you'll want the fitness tracking / improved sound / "find my" features of Gen 2 for the extra cost.
