My Ultimate expired yesterday. I just bought 9 of these. For some reason it wouldn't let me add the extra month to the 9th one. Didn't matter because the Ultimate upgrade got me to the full 3 years. I used the $1 deal previously so I had to pay $15 for the Ultimate upgrade. About $70 total for 3 years of Ultimate. Score!

According to the answers.microsoft.com link in the top post, this crackdown is for PC gamepass to ultimate gamepass conversion. Doesn't appear to be Xbox related. Also, they're not deactivating accounts, just taking away the subscription.

I've got a Microsoft account under which my oldest child has an xbox ID with a game pass ultimate subscription. My younger child just got an xbox, and I'd like to set up a profile and game pass subscription for her. Would that qualify as a "new" membership, or would the other profile already having an account preclude me setting this up for her?

Yes you can, however if your current subscription is still active, as long as the Xbox is set to home for whomever has the active gamepass, the other sub accounts get to benefit from it as well.
