FYI -

Record, view, and save events in your Blink app with a free 30-day trial of the Blink Subscription Plan. Then, subscribe for just $3 per month per camera, or $10 per month for unlimited cameras at a single location

Alternatively:

Save motion clips and photos from up to 10 Blink cameras connected to the Blink Sync Module 2 locally in your home and view them through the Blink app or the computer by plugging in a USB flash drive (sold separately) for no additional fee.
This information is incorrect. I have this and I can view on tvs by requesting alexa to show XYZ location on the property, and also arm and disarm by saying the correct commands. So your con might just be using incorrect commands. Cheers 🍻.
I'm pretty sure the guys source is: "trust me bro" lol

If you have any Apple devices, just go with EufyCam using HomeKit. With HKSV, you don't have to use the manufacturers services at all, just view your cameras securely and privately using Apple's servers.
There is a caveat, though. To access your base station's saved video remotely, you would still have to use the eufy app. You could get around this by having your cameras save directly to iCloud instead, but once you hit a certain amount of cameras, you'll have to pay for more space (though the space you use for video is interestingly not counted against the space you pay for). Also, video being saved to the cloud and the base station at the same time sometimes interferes with each other. Just a heads up!

So on woot I got 5 cameras for $12.99 each, of course that deal is gone but I have seen that come back couple of times in the past (that's no guarantee that it would come back at that price). Are blink worth at $50? I didn't think camera picture quality is great and wouldn't pay $50.. just trying to understand what makes you but at $50.

Do these connect to WiFi (and to the Sync module via the network) rather than directly to the Sync module? One of mine would go on the detached garage and another on the far side of the house below grade (walk out basement.) Both areas have mesh routers so no problem with WiFi, but very little chance of reliable service if these things have to connect to the Sync module directly.
To answer my own question: it's both.

The cameras transfer the data over WiFi. However, they get the commands from the module.

The Sync communicates via 'radio' and seems to have a greater range than Wifi. I was hoping to put it a few feet from my mesh nodes in the basement, inside a closet... essentially invisible. No joy on that. The camera outside the detached garage was not usable, which is perhaps 70 feet away but some portion of that through soil.

I'd say this is a horrible design decision, but I'm sure it's intentional to prevent someone from subscribing and splitting the system over 2 or more houses.

I like the system otherwise. It's slow and in regular HD, but no real glitches. At this price point, the quality and features are still a deal. I was hoping to put a camera farther down the drive so I might get decent video at the street, but that's probably a non-starter given the tethering to the Sync module.
