As the OP indicates, this version of the 800 is missing the griddle insert. It is also missing the different heat manifold you have to swap in for the griddle to work. Now those two pieces are only about $80 total from Masterbuilt if you want then. However, since it doesn't have the griddle pieces, the costco version is also missing the cutout in the bottom shelf the spare manifold fits into, and the set of side hooks you hang the griddle or standard grates from. So it's not "spend $80 more and you get the same grill" exactly.

That being said, if you don't care about griddling or have a separate griddle (which is a lot better), this is a really nice machine. I got it Father's Day and have done ribs, pulled pork and a couple of chickens. All came out great without all the usual attention and fiddling a charcoal grill requires, and all taste better (IMHO) than on a pellet grill or electric smoker. The grill holds temperature better than any device I have ever seen so all you do is fill and set, then wait for your food to be done. I love it.

I was going to say... i have a big arse thick steel griddle I just throw on top of mine... works great, and I can use it in my oven, etc... seems much easier. These charcoal fed smokers blow away my old pellet grill - not even close.

When Costco starts selling a new grill technology, it must be legit. I'm still burning wood and charcoal with a Weber grill and chips with an electric smoker, but I can see how these are becoming the new must-have setup. Now that I'm retired, I may just go with an offset smoker. I have the wood and I have the time.

I was researching this model recently, and the build quality is HIGHLY suspect. The amount of reviews coming from amazon about them arriving damaged, or simply bursting into flames after a few uses had me concerned enough to look at other models.

Due to the way it catches the grease they can "flame up." I suspect the people that are freaking out aren't used to grilling directly over flames. It has flared on me once while going from 325 to 500 degrees to sear. All I had to do was close the lid and slide in the blocker for the charcoal and it was out in less than 10 seconds. The gauge isn't thick, but I bought the cover for $45 and it should last a long time. There are also a lot of different mods you can buy to address the flare ups. Definitely the best grill i have owned, plus it can be used as an offset smoker is a bonus.

that's the thing about reviews, for everyone 1 negative one, you'll find 1 positive one.

I've had an MB560 for 3 years now and it has been rock solid. In fact, I just did a few racks of beef short ribs yesterday. I loaded the hopper with wood/charcoal, set the temp, put in my meat slabs and didn't touch it until they were done 8 hours later. Not sure about you, but if you've charcoal smoked before, you'll know how valuable NOT having to babysit is. These grills are exceptional for what they are - even if there are issues with them from a few users.

Build quality was actually pretty decent. And ya, grease catches fire when hot...like on every grill.

I was talking more about the wiring catching fire and burning up the unit. BUT, this was my mistake, I was looking at reviews for the 560, not the 800.

I have the model that came out before this, the 560. Great idea, horrible execution. The quality control is a mess. I've heard this one is somewhat improved.

the current walmart pricing was better for me honestly. Costco wanted to charge $50 to deliver, this doesnt include the griddle for $650 delivered. Walmart was $740 shipped, no delivery fee, has the griddle ($80 before shipping from masterbuilt) and i could get 5% cash back with discover using paypal (cant use paypal at costco)

Might be depending on the zip code. No shipping fee for me for room of choice delivery. There is a $55 fee if I choose the "Delivery AND Set up" option, but none if just the delivery.

Ripped! I typically a Weber man however these gravity grill had me really intrigued! Made some wings on it yesterday and the flavor was amazing
