Super niche question, but does anyone have experience with this one vs a $30 Chinese knock off one? The 1/2 impact wrench is very good and was wondering if this would be the same situation.

This is a nice grinder. Got it in February 2021 as part of a crazy Amazon bundle that was clearly priced in error. Flipped the rest but kept the grinder and use it frequently. No complaints.

Havent used either so i cant say for sure but my guess is in this situation the knockoff grinder would be pretty terrible. Grinders are extremely more power hungry then impacts so theres a lot more to making a good grinder. There are tons of terrible grinders out no so many impacts when jus talking performance and not longevity

Question for those who own this: how's the battery life for the grinder? I used a Ryobi angle grinder to redo the mortar on our brick steps and got 10-15 minutes of constant use out of the batteries. I suspect it's because those are better for small DIY projects and a major job would require more robust batteries or even a corded tool. So does this have longevity for heavier-demand tasks or have you found it to be similar to my 10-15 min window?

I read some reviews that say, in general, a corded one of these, due to the power requirements, is still the way to go.
No, that does not mean the cordless will not work....but that they have not matched corded in performance.

But the better question to ask is.....are you in the Makita ecoverse?
This is tool-only. Even if it were not though, if you are not already supporting a supply of Makita batteries, this is probably not the unit for you. It is not just the purchase price....it is the maint fees (Batteries)

I have a knockoff brushless one that's compatible with LXT batteries. Compared to the corded angle grinder I have it runs really silent. The max. speed is around 8500 RPM which is a bit slow though. But otherwise it works fine.

It's going to be variable on battery size, but on my 2ah batteries, I'd get about the same 15 minutes or so. For something like grinding out old mortar (time consuming) I'd say buy a good corded grinder. For quick tasks and the occasional bolt cut-off, these are great to have in the bag with the rest of the cordless stuff.

Roughly the same. 5ah battery gets you about 15 minutes constant runtime with this grinder. Or at least it did with a wire wheel to remove old paint and rust off my trailer last fall.

Toolup(via Amazon) has the braking model of this Makita for $134….is that worth it? I'm not a grinding pro.

I purchased the knockoff model. It last 10 seconds and died.
