If you're on the fence about getting one of these, do it. They are so much more convenient than lugging around a 20 lb tank or (4) 1 lb. tanks that are now like $6/ea.

Yes, you can refill 1 lb. canisters. Yes you can do it safely if you're not a moron. Yes it's pretty cheap. Yes I've done it. Yes you'll probably never blow yourself up or get in trouble if you get caught doing it. The 5 pounders are just waaaaay easier to deal with.

I use my 5 lb. for my Weber Q1200 grill and Blackstone Griddle when camping, a harbor freight torch for killing weeds in the yard, my Buddy Heater in the winter when I'm ice fishing.

The whole point is this tanks specialized size, you don't need a 20lb tank for camping grills, for example.

This would be a perfect pairing for something like a Mr buddy heater too, thing blows through 1lb tanks like nothing, but a 20lb is cumbersome.

Actually, propane is sold by the GALLON and weighs 4.11 pounds per Gallon. Thus, $5 per gallon = $1.21 per pound vs Walmart $4.44 per pound.
I am well aware of the units it is commonly sold in. The statement I quoted said $5/lb, thus it is not cheaper than Walmart. We don't know what propane costs by the OP, but if he's paying $100 to fill a 20 lb cylinder he's a sucker.

Where did you find the 20lb tank for $25 each deal?

The only one I remember was from Walmart over a year ago. I picked up 8 tanks for that price, they included the gauge.

Thanks for the heads up.

Silly question - are these safe to store inside once full? I never thought about the green ones being unsafe, but it is a flammable gas. Any tips? I do have a shed I could use.
They have a pressure release valve so if the temps in the shed rise, the valve will release gas as necessary.

I thought I saw these for $39.99 in store. I could be wrong.
I bought these in store a few ago at this price. I probably got 4 b/c my local farm/feed store runs 1/2 price propane deals on occasion. The savings on the propane dropped the $40 price down to less than $30 per tank (unfilled).

It's been this price for a couple months....but sure call it a deal, whatever. I just got two 20 lb tanks for about $25 each I'd call that a deal not this.
Have fun carrying a 20 lb tank for camping trips. My buddy brought one along on our last camping trip to use with his heater. What a pain in the ass.

I've picked up two 20# at ~$25. Only one I can find is Sams Club for $26, free shipping w/ plus from a couple years ago.

This seems like a ripoff. Smaller size yes, but way more expensive than a 20lb tank. I get the idea of its bigger than a 1lb but less than a 20lb, but this price doesn't sell it for me. I'll keep my 20lb and fill for $20 then fill up my 1lbers instead...

How long are these good for?

also, these are $51.95 on Amazon right now after $10 prime savings for late July shipping
Do you mean how much burn time or how many years? Burn time on a mid size grill is typically one hour per pound of propane but obviously varies.

DOT rules require recertification of a tank twelve years after manufacture date which is stamped on the top of the tank and every five years thereafter (max three re-certs). Some places will fill old tanks and don't look at the stamp while some will refuse.
