It's amazing. Not just the story itself, but the work of translation and the Chinese cultural perspective that is uncommon in this genre. I think it's one of the great works of science fiction of the last few decades.

EXCELLENT book. I disagree with the other comments - first book was awesome, second book was incredible. And third was amazing. Highly recommend. One of the few series I've read multiple times.

First book was good. Second was tolerable. Hated the third. By the end, I was wishing I had all of those hours back.

That's pretty much the same with me. The third book was much weaker than the first two.

The sci-fi science stuff in this series is awesome... the love-relationship stuff is kinda cringe though (especially book 3).

best sci-fi i have read lately have been Hail Mary, and also the Earthcore/Mt Fitzroy books.

A problem with most contemporary authors thanks to the bad influence of JJ Abrams and the "mystery box" style of storytelling he popularized with Alias and LOST.

Amazon is showing there is even a 4th book in the series. I haven't read any of them myself but ready to jump in.

Have tried to get into this one a few times. Keep hearing that it's amazing, but I've had a hard time even getting to any part where anything sci fi happens.
