Never had one of these. I assume for the price, that this does a much better job than an instant pot at making rice?
I bought one of this after many years using all other cheaper rice makers. This is as good as it gets with rice. You get perfectly, evenly cooked rice every single time without rice sticking to the bottom which was my experience using those other rice cookers. Also, this has different settings for different types of rice. The pot inside has clear water level lines for the different types of rice so there is no guessing about how much water for which rice.

I bought fireworks, fly zapper, toys for kid made in China and rice cooker & camera lenses made in Japan and not the other way around. To each of their own. My Zojirushi has been used for 5 years and still like new.

I'm one of the few in this thread not making any product quality claims. Just a guy with average reading comprehension skills explaining how words work to people with below average reading comprehension.

That said, I have had a Japanese made one for the past 4 years and have zero complaints, it's still like new.
That's the issue. Every thread one of the first comments is where it's made. Then if you ask for why they get defensive and never provide proof.

Or they say they've got one working for 6 years. But that doesn't mean anything. 6 years is nothing.

You can use a smart plug and set a timer to kick off or schedule it, but a schedule is risky.
Huh? Wouldn't that just turn it off? How would it turn it on?

I agree! But again, I'm not making any claims, nor am I getting defensive, nor am I using my single experience point as a measure. I was just explaining words to someone who was being annoying.

In fact, I did my own research and bought this model for my mom because I'm a big fan of Zoji's products in general. I have no horse in the Japanese v Chinese discussion.

Max capacity is 5.5 cups.
Is that referring to how much dry rice can be cooked or total volume after cooking?
Precooked cups. However, the cup measure is not the same as the US cup measure. It refers to the cup included with the cooker. I would say the cup is equivalent to 2/3-3/4 cup in US measurements.

I have one that's a manual push button. It is plugged into a smart plug, I press the button down with the smart plug off. Put rice and water in it. I can then use Google or Alexa to turn on when ready or use a timer to turn on or use an app if away from home.

Which of the big asian rice cooker brands (zojirushi, tiger or Cuckoo) make a rice cooker with a stainless inner pot? Even the $300 + models have some sort of coating on the inner pot.
True, I searched a lot and unable to find any high end rice cooker w/ Stainless steel pot or ceramic w/o coating.

Good price for this brand and nice deal for this model which is made in China. Their higher models from Japan are much more expensive. All these rice cooker manufacturers from Japan and South Korea have expanded their product lines in the lower end in recent years for competing market share. It is the same for other electronics and appliances. The higher models made in Japan or South Korean are still more expensive and more durable. You get what you pay for. The focus should not be where it was made but what model level it is and the supply chain associated with it.

They aren't saying they don't buy products made in China, they are saying this particular product has a made in Japan version that is higher quality according to reviews. So given the option, they'd rather wait for the better quality option.

Does Samsung or Dell offer the same?
More to the point re:Zojo: Zojo branded stuff used to be made in Japan exclusively. Zojo Micom was made in China. A few years ago some Zojo branded stuff started to be made in China as well, so Zojo diehards will generally give folks a heads up. The Zojo's hecho in China product generally doesn't have all of the features of the Nippon stuff, which is understandable since they're trying to hit a price point.

All that said; this looks like a good deal to me.

Dude is desperately trying to qualify the fact that he buys all his stuff from Walmart. If only he could convince everyone that if you own one product made in China, everything you own should also be made in China than he would feel better about having all cheezy garbage crap in his house.
Just because an item is made elsewhere doesn't mean its quality per se. Even BMW's made or assembled in Germany have parts made in China. Which is almost everything nowadays. So I guess you have garbage crap in your house as well. Look at the sneakers you wear or the clothes you wear. Find out where the parts or items were sourced from before running your mouth. Just having something made in means nothing nowadays the way companies word it. I love china items as along as its affordable and I can flip it. LMAO

Is this really that much better than the Costco rice makers that have been just posted? Why so many rice cooker deals?!
