Ego is having some serious quality control issues with their batteries. I have had two go bad, around 18 months.

And if someone "gifts' you an ego product, make sure you get the receipt. They only provide a 1 time warranty exchange without proof of purchase.
now we need good prices on batteries...ty op
The 16" in this sale is the older model CS1600. The newer model is CS1610. I have no experience with either but thought you all should know.

Does anyone know what are the differences between the chainsaws- is it just size ? Which one would you recommend as a good buy for a homeowner with some medium sized trees / branches to cut down?

18" is fantastic. If the 16" is the latest model it's great too. The older model 16" used the same motor as the 14" and not nearly as fast. I have both the older 16" and the new 18". Big difference! Haven't started my gas Husqvarna in 2 years.

If you don't have batteries, best way to get them is always with a tool. I've been clearing pines of all sizes on some land and bought the backpack blower with a battery just for the 7.5ah battery. That plus the 5ah that came with the 18" chainsaw has been perfect.

I'm not sure if I have the older or newer 16" chainsaw, but it's been fantastic and i have cleared away 2 foot diameter trees with it, making multiple cuts. I have to voice that Ego is probably my favorite of all brands, and I'm not a big brand loyalty person but Ego has been super responsive and I've been very happy with their products. Started with one of their first trimmers, then a blower, 16" chainsaw, manual mower, snow blower, 3000w power bank that uses the batteries for AC power, and now I just bit the bullet and bought their 42" riding mower. I've only had one problem with the snow blower shortly after buying and they sent me a new one that came a few days later. Even after almost 10 years, I've never had one of their batteries die on me. What is great is if you have an CS questions, you can message them on facebook messenger and they respond within a few hours at most. So much easier than calling or emailing. I'm super satisfied with them as a company.

Even though the chainsaw is electric it still uses oil. They try and hide that in the pics and specs, and unless things have changed from when I got my 16" first Gen it doesn't come with it.

There are options to add battery and it is cheaper than buying the battery separately. Adding the 2.5A battery to the blower is $100 more while the battery is $150 if buy separately.
