This monitor's original release in 2019 was the 27GL750 model with a 144hz panel (LM270WQA-SSA1) and it is a really good panel at 144hz with 5.76ms in response time and 10ms input lag according to Hardware Unbox. To be called a 144hz monitor the response time should be under 6.94ms [(1000/144=6.94), (1000/165= 6.06), and (1000/180=5.55)].
Next, LG releases the 27GP850 in 2021 which is the OC version of the 27GL750 This new model can do 165hz stock and can be OC to 180hz in the LG OSD menu. At fast mode 180hz the response time when down to 4.65ms and input lag at 7.7ms. The LG 27GP850 is also HDR 400 certified and includes black light stroking (aka MBR or AMB).
In the same year, LG also releases the 27GP83B which is the cheaper version of the 27GP850 that runs at 165hz stock w/o the OC 180hz option, no black light stroking, and no HDR certification. Since all 3 releases use the same panels (LM270WQA) you can always manually OC it to 180hz if you desire. At 165hz the response time is 4.7ms and the input lag at 8.2ms.
Just to compare this LG to a few very top-end monitors:
Samsung Odyssey G7 (VA panel) at 240hz with a response time of 3.35ms and input lag of 7.8ms.
HP Omen X 27 (TN panel) at 240hz with a response time of 4.08ms and input lag of 6.2ms.
Asus ROG Swift PG279QM (IPS panel) at 240hz with a response time of 4.09 ms and input lag of 6.9ms.
Alienware AW2721D (IPS panel) at 240hz the response time is 4.47ms and input lag at 6.6ms.
Mid-range IPS monitor:
Dell S2721DGF at 165hz respond time 5.72ms and input lag at 8.9ms
MSI MAG274QRF-QD at 165hz respond time 6.2ms and input lag 9.3ms
Whichever version you think fits your budget just go for it. The 27GP850 is ~$100 more compared to the other version.
I end up with the 27GP850 for $350 - $40 Amex Amazon promotion = $310 because it is at a sweet spot in response time/input lag. Plus, you need at least an RTX3080 to run at a high/mid setting 1440p at 240hz.
During Amazon prime day the 27GL750 was on sale for $250 - $40 Amex Amazon promotion = $210 which is a killing deal, and too bad I already brought mine and used the promotion discount.
FYI! All this information can be found if you watch Hardware Unbox/Rtings on Youtube/Google. They show you actual data and not those BS reviews w/o measuring tools and using the best setting for each monitor.
