AirPods Pro recall: How to check replacement eligibility
There's no serial number checker for the AirPods Pro recall, so if you're seeing any of the following issues with an AirPods Pro:

Crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise, or while talking on the phone
Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise
Then:

Call or get in touch with Apple Support – 800.APL.CARE in the US
Set up an appointment at your local Apple Store
Or connect with an Apple Authorized Service Provider
Apple highlights that "Your AirPods Pro will be examined prior to any service to verify that they are eligible for this program. AirPods Pro (left, right, or both) with a confirmed issue will be replaced. The AirPods Pro case is not affected and will not be replaced."

Had my airpods replaced 2 years with for the same issue and it's been happening again since then.

It's really frustrating because I paid a lot for these and Apple replaced them with the ones with known defects again :[

Wow thanks for sharing this recall. My 1st gen Airpods Pro has been making cracking noises for about a year now. I was debating whether I should get a new pair or not (this was already an upgrade from previous regular Airpods). Good to know that it isn't just my issue. Definitely getting a replacement soon.

It's not a recall, it's a service extension. So they'll just extend the warranty out to cover if you have the issue.

Initially purchased Refurbished [Renewed] during '21 Prime Days, first signs of trouble appeared approx. 6mo. later (in one earbud), gradually got worse over next 2 - 3 mo. until I could no longer play anything over 5 decibels (or whatever halfway increment on volume is).
- - -

Called Friday, July 15 (with all specs [invoice, s/n, dates, etc] in front of me; having already attempted several workarounds [e.g. update os, try alternate phone, etc]); Approx. 25 mn. phone call in total (including several minutes holding as they spoke to supervisors, Tech, whoever?
They initially DENIED (the 'repair,') simply bc of Apple Care/Warranty lapsed (less than a month prior); That's when I asked whether this was a recall or repair offer [and that when I was placed back on hold]. They asked for a bit more info and whether or not I'd be available to travel to nearby Genius Bar -- more convenient to ship.
Less than a week turnaround, 7/21 received new (or replacement) Airpods Pro [w same magsafe charger] -- they actually translated original s/n to the "Repaired" set; but closer evaluation [individual serial no.] reveals totally new device(s). Apple makes it clear throughout this transaction is a REPAIR.
