3-4" Stainless Steel. Most important however is to hit a stud.

The other thing is to install low on the door below the handle as this is where most of the force from a break-in will occur.

I got some #10 3.5" screws from Home Depot for all door reinforcement and security upgrades I'm doing.
I see 3" screws recommended as well. Just make sure you drill a pilot hole for them first (for any of them).

Have one of these for our apartment door. They can't really get in through windows, so this is the only entrance. Gives us peace of mind at night.

I have the one posted here and have used the one you linked in the past. I think the one posted here is better as there is no way for someone to open it from outside the one you linked in certain installations someone can push it with a stiff wire. The problem with the one linked here is if you don't have enough room between the door and frame for the piece to go between them

But then its pain to bend down daily to lock and unlock. I think they recommend above handle

What do you mean by "low on the door"? Install a hinge by the handle? Large screws?

EDIT: My bad. I saw the pic and somehow thought that it was a security door hinge.

These are highly effective, but the operation on this particular one is not very comfortable if you have to open it a lot. I ended up replacing these with "the original" by cardinal gates for my entry doors and relegated these to the basement door.

Mine sits between the door handle and deadbolt - right about where someone would kick if they were attempting to break the door frame. Use long high strength screws into the stud to keep it secured.

Have these on my exterior doors and bedroom door. Properly installed, these should give you a few more seconds of time to defend against a forced entry.
