Do you need the sync box to use the gradient part or is the app enough?

If you want the colors to match what's on screen you will need the box.

I was just going to put it behind my son's bed. Can I do the color shifting via hub/app?

I don't have gradient myself but I'd imagine that scenario should work via the app. The box is only for syncing up the lights to the image on a TV (e.g. a scene with a lot of red on the left and blue on the right will have the lights change to that accordingly).

I suggest hitting YouTube for a quick review to confirm, but I'm very confident that you're fine in your scenario.

edit: just to add I'm confident in the aspect of the app using multiple colors at once. I'm sure there's a max you could do at one time. other part I'm not sure about is moving colors (like a constant changing rainbow effect for example).

Thanks. I may hold off. I was hoping to run a rainbow effect behind the bed without needing anything more than the hub and app.
