Cooling pad yes. It was insanely hot just sitting here with a few tabs open. Known issues on the g15. Also it keeps on at a very high temperature level while idle in sleep mode. Not good!

I went with the Alienware version of it instead and have been very happy other than some issues with Alienware Command Center.

I have this laptop sitting on my dresser and game on 4k with the lid closed, connected to a TV. Press f8 (I think?) to turn on fans at 100% and it runs perfectly fine. The noise is a non issue. Also use a laptop stand with a fan if you're concerned about temps, but still the Ryzen runs about 15 degrees cooler than my Intel Dell laptop with a 1660. I prefer this laptops chasis/case over the Alienware m15 r5 at same exact specs

To each their own. I have the Alienware R7 with the 6gb 3060 and it's temps are considerably better.

I can have open a couple editing programs and the fans still don't kick on.

I'm glad your experience was better than mine. Though after a long time not only on here, but Reddit as well.. the majority consensus is that g15 plagued by poor thermals.

I just purchased a Legion 5 16ACH6H from vipoutlet on eBay with Ryzen 5800H and 130 watt 3070. I paid $1209 refurbished with a 2 year Square Trade warranty. The screen is IPS 500 nit and WQXGA with Gsynch and 165 Hz. Killer specs and quiet even a full power. It drives my 49" G9 at 5120x1440 at good fps. The big question was would it Gsynch to my monitor without a DP port nd the answer is yes via USB-C to DP. For the record the refurb had no signs of use--looked brand new in original box and serial number showed 9 months of factory warranty left. I'll be upgrading the ram and drives shortly, jus want to fully blast it for a few weeks first. If you can find a deal on this model....go for it.
