If you have the room for it, this center channel is worth every penny.

Its gonna cost you some real estate though....it's huge.

The Academy is legendary. Dual 8s in a center move more air than four 5s. I'd keep the academy.

Legit deal on an amazing speaker. Like uh2-2u said though, it's massive. It's also very sturdy so you can easily use it as a TV stand in addition to a speaker.

Any input between this and the narrower new mark ii model? Been eyeing this beast for a while and have the real estate ....but pretty sure the wife would approve/forgive the narrower type.

Wow this is a really good deal. I got mine for 500 back in Feb and I thought that was a good deal. It is big and heavy so plan accordingly. Make sure there is some room for the speaker connection in the back as well.

Really nice center channel as others have said, it does command space but its worth it. The center channel is the most important speaker in you home theater.
