I've been out of high school for over 20 years and they're still using this same calculator and it's at the same price. Hopefully the bootleg calculator games have improved since then to help pass the time in Calculus class. I learned more real world skills playing Drug Wars on my beloved square body TI calculator.
I teach AP Calculus. If you can snag a college discount, it's worth it to get this calculator. You can't use a phone on an AP test, and though any graphing calculator will work, the multi color format and the faster processor make it worth the money. They're also pretty much indestructible.

Finally, you can sell it for around $80 when you're done with it.
With inflation, the calculator is less expensive than it used to be. $100 in 1997 is about $187 now. /Not saying the near monopoly is good.

Well you almost certainly can't use your phone as a calculator on exams. I have a TI-84 and found that going to college on a TI-89 would be better. But this one is colorful and cool, it's the hip option

This (or another similar calculator) will be mandatory for high school exams, and some university.

I have the CE. It's worth it as an upgrade to the normal screen. It's much easier to see two graphs when they're different colors.

Only thing is that this doesn't take AA batteries, so you must remember to keep it charged. If it dies during an exam you're boned.

If I have a 20% that expires in September, anyone know if it stacks with their birthday 5% reward?

Its 20% off right now. If I order it today for pickup...can I pick it up tomorrow after asking for price adjustment with cs to make it $99 from $149 while also keeping my 20% intact?

Graphing calcs are convenient for some classes and homework. If you are studying engineering, get a non graphing one and use it as your main calculator.

You can't use graphing calculators in any licensure exams

People swear by the casio fx115 / 991 but I like my ti-36x

Graph 89 [google.com] is a perfect alternative, IF they don't need to use it in the classroom and/or on tests.

Then request the TI-89 Titanium Operating System ROM from Texas Instruments website. [ti.com]

I know that 20% off coupon for college student can be used on something else and not only on graphic calculator, but I feel like high school students need graphic calculator in their math classes more than college students. I had a graphic calculator when I was a college student but never used in my math class (I was not a math major and did not take advanced math). My son is upcoming sophmore at college and is also math major, and he can't use graphic calculator in his math classes. My older 2 sons had to use graphic calculators in their AP math classes at high school. Upside is you can easily sell graphic calculator at good price. (I bought ours on Ebay.)

Former College Engineering student, and engineer now. I love having the TI-84 Plus CE just in a drawer in case I need it. Phone apps are okay, but nothing beats physical buttons when performing calculations.

This also has an improved processor over the previous ti-84 so it is indeed a lot faster and more responsive and the display being higher resolution means much more useful representation of your formulas.

$80 IMO is a good deal, and it's a tool your children will use from HS -> College, and if you're a maniac like me in their adult life if they're in an engineering field.

If this was the non CE model, then it wouldn't be worth it. And like others noted.. You can just sell it when you don't need it.
