One simply needs to make sure to redeem all XBL Gold codes before signing up for GPU.
Also the OP doesn't say anything about the extra 1 month for recurring billing.

So, if you're an existing or former Ultimate member, this will likely wind up being ~$20 for 200 Days of Ultimate. Even if you get the extra month for $1 as a new or eligible expired member, that's still only ~7.5 months total, which still isn't bad, just not spectacular.

1) Purchase 2x (limit) 3-mo Gold (50 day GPU) for $11.58..
a) Claim Code 1 at redeem.micro$oft dot com, Yes to auto-bill, navigate to account.micro$oft.com, Turn Off auto-bill.
b) Claim Code 2... blah blah blah -> 8 months Gold success.
2) Purchase 1x (only needed to add 1-year), rinse repeat -> 12 months Gold for $17.37.
Wait for next Alert. Wonder why this isn't linked as a 'sticky', or persistant deal.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Or should I do the method listed in the other post for the additional months
"Redeem 3 mos, get a free month for
enabling recurring billing. = 4
Disable recurring billing.
Redeem 3 mos, get a free month for

I've used the $1 first month GPU promo previously, so I had to pay $15 for 1 month, making the total $36ish for 17 months.

I suggest you buy a few Xbox Live Gold codes and redeem them. If you get the extra 1 month, then you don't need to buy too many more to max out to 3 years.
