One simply needs to make sure to redeem all XBL Gold codes before signing up for GPU.
Also the OP doesn't say anything about the extra 1 month for recurring billing.

1) I bought 9 orders of 3-Month subscriptions from Eneba.com store first using my computer.
2) I redeemed first code using my computer (using the link in original post step 7.) and as soon as I did that, it shows that recurring billing is default set to on (blue tab), and said that I will get one month free. I didn't change anything and completed the redemption.
3) I then went to my Xbox, settings, subscriptions, validated that the expiry date is indeed 4 months from now (1 month free). I then turned the recurring billing off on the Xbox, and went back two steps (back on Settings screen) by pressing the B button on the controller just to avoid any refresh issues.
4) I repeated steps 2) and 3) eight more times (nine times in total), and I managed to get 27 months + 9 months = 36 months of Xbox Live Gold membership for about $53 including taxes in USA expiring on August 9, 2025.
5) I then used step 8 in the original post to do the conversion. There was a scary message that after the first month, I will be charged 14.99 but just ignore that because in essence, it's the charge AFTER your entire 36 month thing expires. I clicked continue and finished the subscription.
6) Finally, went back to my Xbox, confirmed that I have gamepass ultimate until August 2025, and most importantly, turned off the recurring billing one last time and I was done.
7) Checked the credit card and I was charged exactly $1. All in all, for about $55, I now have 3 years worth of Game Pass Ultimate.
SLICK.
Can get 9x 3 month for $89 USD and then do the recurring billing trick each time to get 36 months for just under $90. Not as slick but still not too shabby IMO
