I have this set and they're great for around the house. The only issue i have is that there isn't as big of a variety of 12V makita tools. If you're looking to get into a 12V system and don't mind spending more money I recommend Milwaukee M12 just due to the sheer variety of 12V tools they have.
In some cases sure. But you'd be surprised what modern 12v can do. I use Milwaukee 12v all the time at work and they have a lot of versatility. If you're only doing small things around the house, I'm sure this will be a fantastic kit.

Wow comes with 2 batteries and a bag too. I don't really "need" it but wow that's a slick deal.

I have this exact set, works great. Better than my 18v Ryobi set.

Eh, 12V. Would that even have enough "Oomph" in some cases? I thought most power tools were 18V or 20V these days.

Hmm.. just bought the ridgid 18v 1/2in set with 2 battery, charger, bag, and ryobi impact bit set for 89. What's your guys thoughts on returning for this? Worth it for a makita? Or 12v & refurb make it not worth?

Also has anyone experienced having to use these 2 year Allstate eBay warranties on refurbs?

Thanks! I needed an impact driver pretty badly. This is the best deal I've seen on a reputable brand for a while

I have this exact set. I purchased it on clearance from Home Depot a few years back. I've used it to drive screws in a deck, put together saw horses (for holding firewood when I'm cutting it), and dozens of other similar tasks. I'm not going to build an entire deck with it for example, but for replacing a handful of boards it worked great. I highly recommend this kit.

Just note here that I do use Bosch and Milwaukee 12v drill/screwdrivers build my deck.
Though not same brand, they are of the same level. So I believe this set is powerful enough for most household tasks. Not power enough for vehicle.

Sorry, I'm a noob with power tools. Can I use impact sockets with the impact driver? Or do I specifically need an impact wrench for that?

Dang! Now I'm really tempted! My Bosch drill just died a few weeks ago (started smelling like ozone a few months ago, started throwing sparks and smoke a few weeks ago). As such, I was thinking of getting Makita as a replacement.

Thanks for the reply!

If anyone gets this and doesn't need the tool bag, give me a holler! I'd take it off your hands.

You can get a 3/8" and 1/2" adapter set and use impact sockets, sure. But if you're planning on doing automotive work (lug nuts, brake calipers, etc), this will not cut it. You'll want a proper 1/2" impact wrench.

Can I use this to build a backyard shed? Is it powerful enough?
