Each to their own. I bought those red dispensers last time on sale and have had nothing but a nightmare using them. A tape gun, I can use no problem and much prefer!
Can't comment on the price vs historical price, etc.. but the amount of time that having a packing tape gun has saved me over the years, has probably paid for itself 100s of times over
You're getting plenty of hate, but I completely agree with you. I've used tape guns at work many many times. Ripping/cutting the tape is the problem. WAY easier with the red dispenser.
You have to one time buy option and checkout , then the gift card will apply. Then click on the save 5% to setup s&s. Then you can use s&s with the gift card being your payment. Hope this makes sense.

I have used both. It comes down to how often you use it. If you have a big job like moving and have a ton of boxes to tape, the larger tape gun is better. If you occasionally ship packages out, and ship one at a time, I prefer the red type because it is more compact and harder to mess up when you are just doing one package. Will pass on this - I have one already and almost never use it.
Hmmm. I always figured they were all pretty much the same. Is there that much difference between one of the common Scotch tape brand tape guns and these Tape King, or ULine models?
This looks just like the one Uline gives out for free when you order a case of tape. If it's even close to the same this is a great tape gun. Those 3M ones are garbage.
Edit: Not implying they're the same as uline, just they look very similar. The uline ones are pretty bulletproof for being a toss-in.

With any tape gun you need to adjust the tension correctly with the knob on the center of the tape roll holder. Too tight and it will be difficult to pull the tape off of the roll. Too loose and you will pull off too much tape too quickly and will have a hard time cutting the tape off. Once you get the tension set just right you will enjoy using it a lot more.

You can get much cheaper tape though. Copped an 8 pack of clear tape for $2 at my local HomeGoods
I already have a tape gun, and don't need it. But for this price can't pass it up. I guess I'll have two tape guns now.
