16:9 aspect ratio, if you were wondering. Makes this a better media consumption device, but I really would rather all my laptops be 16:10 at this point - makes web browsing so much easier!
As usual though, there's not a significant performance benefit to the i7 over i5 in the same series. In this case the i7 actually benchmarks[cpubenchmark.net] a bit lower, on average.

Two problems with your conclusion, first the i7-1260p is faster, but passmark only has <100 samples, and we all know laptop performance depends on how much power they provide the CPU (as its adjusted by the OEM) and thermals.
Second problem is the i7-1280p is actually the top end CPU for the 28W segment, which is 30-40% faster than the i5-1240p. The 1280p is 6+8 cores, so it has 2 more performance cores, the 1240p and 1260p are 4+8.

All very nice, but it doesn't get around the simple fact that over hundreds of benchmarks, the 1280p doesn't manage to consistently outperform the 1260p. The 2 more performance cores don't seem to make the difference you'd expect, probably because these Intel chips are already running too hot as it is, and in real-world laptop designs, they quickly have to throttle.
With the same thermal / power / chassis design, it's going to be a small difference in the vast majority of applications between the i5 and i7. A Core i7 is almost never worth the price premium over a Core i5 in the same series - you're better off saving the money and replacing your laptops slightly more often - in 3 years a Core i3 will blow this Core i7 out of the water.
Just an update with my comparison between the 2021 version of this laptop and the 2022 version is I now have confirmation on the cost cutting measure they took with the SSD. The 2021 version came with a OEM version of the Gen 4 NVME Samsung 980 Pro (PM9A1) that can hit 6k read and 5k write. The 2022 version came with a Gen 3 NVME Samsung PM991a that only has a single chip on it and is rated at only 3100 read and 1800 write.
This is a significant cost cutting measure they did and will effect resume and wake from sleep modes. Comparing the two there is a noticeable delay.
