Some things to note:
- a lot of complaints about cooling but if you're like me and it's kept in a room that has almost constant AC in the summer it's manageable.
- cooling is more an issue on the cpu for me, I experience thermal throttling under load bc the 120mm simply isn't enough for the 11700k. Idle temps around 45 degs.
- GPU is normally fine, ~75 degrees at 100% load during a gaming sesh.
- 3 m.2 slots as noted in the spec sheet. But one is for your NIC card and one is hidden behind the GPU. Would have to remove the GPU to access it. And of course the third is your C drive.
- the included WD black nvme ssd is gen 3. I upgraded to a gen 4 drive recently to max out my performance. Not really necessary for most use cases tho. Also, if you use both m.2 slots you won't get gen 4 speeds as the 11700k only has 20 pcie lanes (16x for gpu + 4x for one gen 4 ssd)
- lots of included bloatware. Mcafee, onedrive, lots of HP nonsense. Just uninstall all of it.
- fans can get pretty loud under sustained load.
- Windows won't go into Sleep Mode for some reason, it just cycles back on. Seems to be a common issue with HP Omens.
I'm overall satisfied, but I might look into a case swap later on so I could fit a 240mm or 360mm AIO on the CPU.
I've had both of my 3090 versions up for sale for months. I have them priced >$1K lower than I paid for them on sale just 6 months ago. I literally haven't even got a scammer text or an insulting offer worth of interest.
Never again. Buyer beware.

To all others looking at this Omen, it's a screaming deal. I bought my Ryzen 5 5600, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSG, and RTX 3080 for $1712 after tax in November and thought I got a deal. Still had to spend $500 on 32GB RAM, (2) 1TB SSDs, Noctua D-15 + 2 extra 120mm fans, and new case. If you can stack the student discount, this deal is a no-brainer.
I wonder how many graphics cards NVIDIA is selling now that the mining boom is over?

its not even exclusive for student discount. you can just contact customer service via chat or phone. i did via chat and give them your employer's name and they can look it up. my workplace only carries dell products, but surprisingly they said my company gets corporate discount too.

Someone else commented about AC, his room has a mini-split directly above his gaming rig. That really doesn't make too much of a difference. He has a bedroom over the garage which is inherently warmer and the house AC didn't cool it as much as the rest. We started with a window unit, but after installing replacement windows, we didn't want to screw into those, so we upgraded to the mini-split. There was little difference between the window unit and the mini-split, so I don't think that exterior cooling helps the situation much.
