Video Summary - They're both using a 3070 but the Legion's has a higher TDP. Performance isn't that much different between the two but the reviewer preferred the portability and sleek design of the G15. Don't expect a huge jump of performance between the G15 Nvidia 3070 and 3080 as they have the same TDP (100w).
That said, there have been some tweakers who that achieved 120w via BIOS flash for more performance.
TLDR: Sleek design? YAS! 400 bucks more? NAHS. Better deal would be when the 2021 G15 3070 version is on sale (sometimes at 1550).
At this price why not get a desktop or wait for RX7000 or RTX4000?
Valid question, but some have preference of portability or just don't have the room for a DT. Those will have astronomical prices at launch, and a 3080 may have comparable performance to a 4070. And 4070 lappies may be around 2k.
Is this worth $400 more than Legion 5 Pro with 5800H/3070?
They are completely different items, it's almost like comparing a pc to a Mac.
The Asus sacrifices raw power for portability but it's battery life and thin profile are rediculous.
Iirc the an under watt 3080 vs a high powered 3070 should be comparable and trade blows in power, maybe a slight edge to the 3070 thanks to the cooling of that chassis, but they will be similar performance wise.
I personally wouldn't pay 1800 for the Asus tho, I'd get the 3070 version.

Food for thought
Bring a heavy laptop around is not a good idea. Also, having a microATX desktop + 27 monitor does not take that much space.

Higher powered 3080 laptop (130W) was listed under $1700 (https://slickdeals.net/f/15845890-15-6-msi-gp66-series-laptop-i7-11800h-rtx-3080-16gb-ddr4-1tb-ssd-1700-free-shipping?attrsr
