  • About this Deal:
    • Comes As Is: Warranty does not apply, and we do not accept refunds or returns
    • What is distressed inventory?
      • Every once in a while, we overstock an item, and it ends up sitting in our warehouse for longer than we'd like. When that happens, we take some of the mattresses out of the box and let them decompress to see how they're doing. Some of the mattresses we took out of the box didn't decompress as much as they should, so the overall performance and comfortability aren't as consistent as we'd like.
    • What does that mean for you?
      • When you buy a distressed inventory mattress, that means the mattress isn't perfect and the performance and comfortability vary from item to item. However, you're also getting a great deal on one of our most popular mattresses. We do not accept refunds or returns on items sold as is. All sales are final.

I bought several mattresses two years ago that were tightly rolled up and sealed. The manufacturer is owned by a friend of the family. He explained how revolutionary the process is and how the mattresses would be shipped for far less money but expand perfectly upon arrival. Well, they didn't. Apparently they sat on the truck for too long and all of the mattresses did not fully expand in the corners. We got such a good deal on them, and being sent from a friend, we did not say anything. But that's the last time I'll buy a mattress that comes rolled up. I absolutely believe that some of these mattresses may not fully expand just like what happened to the corners of my mattresses.

Bed in a box can, and will degrade over (much) time. Coils want to be decompressed back to their natural state. That said, a good hybrid with individual pocketed coils will only show minor, and targeted defects, even in worst case scenarios. Think of it as you might a TV, wherein one pixel blows instead of a whole panel.

Innerspring with typical interlocked coils? "Pillow tops" made from rejected cotton balls? Couldn't pay me enough to go back to that ancient, dated garbage. Technologies change. Some people's opinions don't simply because they don't try new things.

This is probably a safe/good buy, but because it's only an 8" mattress, don't expect top tier quality.

I bought two of these an 8 inch twin, and a 10 inch full. The Full mattress is absolutely amazing given what I paid for it. The 8 inch not so much it simply did not have enough cushion, i do recommend these mattresses so long as you go 10 inch of higher. In this case size definitely matters.

We bought some of the Zinus clearance distressed through eBay a few years ago. They are ok. My kids are young and they were for their bunk beds. For them they are fine. When I have laid on them for a few minutes I immediately feel the springs and it's not ideal. Yea I could sleep on it but I also realize it's not super good by any standard. If they were on a guest bed and I slept on it I'd be thinking "man what a cheap mattress". Ours did thicken up normal. They just are thin and you feel the springs.

With that said. All
Beds in boxes are not bad. Our primary king bed mattress was bought thrrough sleepEZ back around 2013. That is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on and remains so.
It's telelay latex foam. Not memory foam. And not the cheaper Dunlop latex.

It came in boxes. Each side is 3 layers of foam stacked of different densities so you can dial in the firmness to your height snd weight.

Basically we laid out the quilted top cover like a soft sided suit case. Laid the foam layers in each side stacked up and zipped it up. It's incredible.

Eventually the top most softest layer of foam will need to be replaced. But it's still awesome.

So don't put all box shipped mattresses in the same boat. They vary greatly.
Bought a full for kids bed. Hopefully it will not be too bad. Not sure if it should have been front page deal.

This smells like a clearance under the guise of "distressed inventory". There's tons of inventory in retail channels right now and one way to get rid of it while protecting your normal price is to pretend like there's something wrong with the inventory. I mean, even their explanation seems iffy - the idea that a mattress in a box won't expand to full height because it's been in the box too long? Hmmm....
Probably in for one.
Last year I bought a mattress that was made by Lucid. I bought the 2019 version because I used it before at an old apartment a few years ago, didn't realize it would be an issue, and it took it longer than usual to fully expand. I wrote back a message via Amazon to the seller and they ended up refunding me fully. No complaints about the free mattress, it did expand after a while, just took longer than advertised

I had a friend stay with me and all he did was complain about the mattress in the guest bedroom. When we looked closely at the tag, it was bought in 1966. How did I know, my grandmother died and it came from her house, I remember when she bought it. Against my better judgement I bought new, but had he not complained, it would have lasted the rest of my life and really there was nothing a matter with it.

Don't stored away mattresses get bugs in them? Due to moisture and other things ?

Me too. Just got a 10 inch queen delivered even though it was listed as 8 inches. I'm letting it sit for a few days to expand but so far there is nothing indicating any major issues. Maybe some corners are a little compressed but I just opened it. Now, comfort wise it feels like a cheap mattress for sure. Nowhere near my 13 inch innserspring pillowtop that was NOT a bed in a box but I knew that going in. What I hate about bed in a box is that when they are hybrid (meaning they have springs) the springs are always really weak because they have to be to be able to roll up the mattress and you feel it when you lay down. Anyway I recommend this deal for someone looking for a cheap second or third guest mattress.

If someone reminds me I can post a pic in a couple days when it is fully expanded.

Anybody else getting a mattress recycling fee? Can it be bypassed? It should be stated in the discrimination.

While Zinus got all the flack for using fiberglass, Linenspa and other brands do too. Just an FYI. Shouldn't be a problem if you never remove the cover.

https://betterbeddeals.com/mattre...iberglass/

They also give a very vague answer on their own website which basically confims they use fiberglass:

https://www.linenspa.com/blog/all...s-answered

The fiberglass is used in the zipped cover to make the mattress fire retardant.

They are usually covered in plastic. Also, bed bugs need a food source, which an unused mattress is not.

Correct but the issue is that they use it at all. It's extrememly unsafe for humans if it gets in the air.

Sounds like you have a good understanding of the newer mattresses .. what's some your favorite premium brand and model?
