Notifications don’t link correctly

1,548 174 July 27, 2022 at 04:22 PM
There is a bug: when you get a notification of a reply to a thread the notification link which opens to the app doesn't take you to the reply, rather to the start of whole thread. So you have to search through the discussion thread to find the reply.

This occurs even when using links from inside the slickdeals app. For example go to user profile, notifications, and press a reply notification and the app takes you to first post in the thread and not your quoted reply

This is still not working and is worse now. I got a reply notification on an iOS device, pressed the notification to go to slickdeals, and the Slickdeals app opened but now doesn't even take me to the thread let alone to the reply message in the thread.

What mobile device are you using? Which version of the app are you using? When you get a notification, is it the web based one or is it the Slickdeals mobile app based one? Screenshots would help.

This is from within the app, not Slickdeals website that then takes you into the app?

  • iPhone 12 with latest iOS version installed
  • Latest version of the slickdeals app
  • Correct, this is not the web site, it is the slickdeals iPhone app that does not work correctly.
  • Occurs with notifications from the app or via emailed notifications which then open the slickdeals app on the iPHone

See next post for use case/workflow with screen shots from the iPhone slickdeals app.

Here's one example use case where the linking does not work properly in the app.

1. Open Slickdeals iPhone App
2. Go to Slickdeals profile -> notifications
3. Select a "You were quoted in a thread" from the list of notifications
4. App opens the correct thread but does not take you to the quoted reply in the discussion thread.

Thank you blabooboo2 for reporting this issue, and emceep and SP33DFRE3AK for escalating.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this functionality no longer behaving as expected. We think we know where this issue is coming from, and are looking to add a fix to one of our future release cycles. It should be completed 2-4 weeks from now. If the issue what we think it is, there should be no need to update the iOS App to receive this bugfix.

If the issue continues to be a problem after 4 weeks, please reach out again and we will provide an update on the status of the fix.

Thanks again,

My pleasure. Unfortunately it's still not working. Any update on a fix?

blabooboo2,

I'm sorry for the delay in addressing this issue. I understand it's inconvenient, and I apologize for your experience. With the last response there was hope that this was a backend issue that could be resolved quickly, but that did not hold out, as such, we are delayed on fixing this until the next release at the earliest. That said, we're further behind on the next release than we anticipated. We're expecting the next release to come out near the end of January, but even then in a limited rollout. This is contrary to our two week release schedule of the past, as we're doing a lot of work under the hood, basically rebuilding the entire app. We're looking forward to getting back to our bi-monthly releases in the new year, and with that releasing new bug fixes, new features, and working toward giving you an an amazing experience in the years to come.

I acknowledge that this doesn't do much to ease your pain right now, but thank you for your patience and understanding!

Thank you,

Christopher Gulliver
