If anyone is curious, none of the smart features apply to the USB ports.

Not that it should be a surprise, but I wanted to note it just in case.

My thought is entertainment center, 1 plug gets me the total energy usage, this strip i can break it down per device

So what would you use this for? Anyone have it?

I'm a fan of the kasa line and have several cameras and a handful of the individual smart plugs (energy monitoring ones) but I can't figure out what I'd use a strip with 6 smart plugs in it. I do like that it has energy monitoring for each port so I suppose if you had some sort of setup with 6 things you wanted to closely monitor that could be something.

Also wanted to add - this isn't really a deal, it's (almost) always "on sale", usually at a couple dollars less. Tplink/kasa follows the Kohls pricing model.

You mean even the whole strip powered off via smart feature, will the the USB gets power because it is plugged?

I assume they mean, if you can control the USB ports like you can the "smart outlets".

Same use as a standard power strip but with the added utility of a smart outlets. A bunch of electronics needing power within the reach of a single power strip.

Yeah reading through the reviews it looks like a lot of people use it for their saltwater fish tanks which makes sense.

Right there with you - I am heavily invested in the Kasa line with smart switches and plugs but can't come up with a use case for this that couldn't be accomplished with a smart plug or two.

I have it on my computer desk.

I like to see what kind of power my monitor, computer, etc draw. It's more of a curiosity piece than anything for me.

I use one in my home office for automating dual monitors, computer speakers, a mug warmer, fan, and accent lights.

The use cases for a surge protector with this many smart outlets are fairly limited. However, since many smart plugs block the adjacent outlets on regular surge protectors, this is a great solution for areas where you have a high density of devices you want to automate.

This has been 46.99 for the most part since April. So, I'm not sure how much of a deal it is. As for usefulness, it can be very useful. I almost bought one last week then backed off to think about it. But, I think it would be useful with my computer setup. I have a DAC/headphone Amp/pre-amp/receiver/microphone mixer and mic preamp processor that I could group and turn on and off together. I don't like leaving these units on all the time.

So, this is one example of how something like this can be useful. It's basically a smart plug in a strip. As for why people are complaining about controlling the USB ports though is beyond me. Why would you want too and what devices out there do that?

I have the 3 and 6 port versions of this product.

I use the addressable 6 port version for my 3d-printer stand. The strip itself is plugged into a UPS, then each port controls a different aspect of the printer (octopi, the printer itself, lighting, etc). This lets me turn off the printer when finished, while keeping the pi online.

The 3-port version I use to control a few nucs at my desk that I dont need on all the time. I have them configured to power on when power is restored, so I can start them up without having to get to their power buttons.

I also have an older (non kasa) smart power switch I use in my networking rack, but mainly the point of these addressable outlets is to cut down on the number of bulky-ish bricks and let you control individual outlets from a single source of power.
