AquaWater09901 have you confirmed that this works to get you to 28MPH? Also recognize you have the Big Swell I believe. Have been trying this on the Big Sur, as others have said, perhaps with other models as well they haven't been able to change it.

Perhaps you even have a different LCD Display? I can see on the back of mine it says it is Model AK47.

I have tried searching for hacks on Model AK47 but haven't come up with anything, but see this is in fact the display as quantities can be bought from Alibaba etc, showing this display.

I did notice I can get to some type of undocumented menu on mine with PO levels and settings by holding down the up and down at the same time while the display is on.

Edit:

Ah, I figured out how to remove the limit!!

These PO settings look to be standard.
So get to the PO settings by holding the Up/Down at the same time after the LCD is on.
Click on the power button to go through the PO's.
PO8 is the limit! This is in kmh, this was set to 32, bump this up with the up arrow to 41. That is the max I could change it to. This works out to 25.5 mph.
After this change I can get to 25mph going down a hill.
On a straight road I can cruise at about 22 with full throttle. Pedaling fast like crazy I can get it up 24.

So this is a bit of an increase. Perhaps with a bigger front sprocket I could peddle a bit normally and get to 25.

Perhaps it is a limit of the 350W motor or the battery to get me with throttle to 23 or so, but I don't think the controller itself will let me go above 41kph with motor assist.

Possibly changing wheel size, PO6, would allow assist at faster speed?

FYI, I see some people have commented about their having 5 instead of 3 levels. This can be set in the PO5 setting.

Here are the PO settings for an entirely different controller, but they look pretty close from what I see. https://elecbikeparts.com/pages/s...ser-manual

There could be some other cool settings to see what they are and work with them.

for example: P12 PAS Start Strength
0-5, Higher = more assistance
Amount of assistance given when you start pedaling.

I am thinking this must be low. It seems to give very little help right away. Perhaps a safety feature set at factory? But I want help right away!

Or PO9 might affect how quickly it helps?
P09 Throttle Response
0 for instant throttle, 1 for delayed throttle
Sets whether pressing throttle and motor beginning to spin is instant, or whether there is a delay between the actions.

Edit: P09 was already set at 0 and can't be changed
P12 was set at 3 and can't go higher, but it can go lower.

FYI, read on this site https://power-bicycle.com/ebike-power/ that hub motors are pretty much limited to 25.

"Once the ebike is travelling at 25 MPH, the controller-wheel speed is maxed out. You can't go far over 25 MPH on most hub motors unless the motor & controller pair are designed for higher speeds."

This guy also talks about a smoothing circuit the mfgs implement for greater distance. Something about a loop back wire that can be removed to increase initial assistance but at
a sacrifice in distance.

Is this random china stuff?

Not a lot of reviews. I got a warning going to this site (possibly fraudulent?).

Why don't they sell any ebikes on their non-corporate site?

Is anyone else concerned this is a knockoff? Joyridebikes.com is the original site (since 2001) selling Hurley and joyridebike.com (since 2015) is painted with 'weird' all over it.

If possible would you see how wide the rear drop out is? On the insides of the frame, estimated. I'm considering getting one for a project.
I posted a reply to that question earlier. It looks to me to be about 5 1/2", but a bit hard to check above the motor through the spokes and I don't want to remove the back wheel to measure accurately.

Got my Betty today and she is beautiful!

Didn't even get it to full charge, (charger still on red), went for a ride with my wife on the Big Sur which also wasn't fully charged. We went 22 miles, fairly leisurely riding. Never below 2 assist, with some pleasure to climb hills and overpasses.

Got home and we are both still on 2 bars of power.

It doesn't seem the 30 mile range is exaggerated at all. I am pretty sure we would exceed it at our rate.
Hope that works out to be the case for you. I will say that the math is pretty solid on this. For you to get 30 miles of range either the battery needs to be stronger than advertised (hard to imagine) or the motor needs to be pulling less power than advertised. I don't know of any other magical variable that would allow extended range outside of those two factors unless you find a way to go down hill there and back again!

Not trying to talk down the bikes at all. This is a great deal. The bikes with the 10ah batteries all look like they could be easily replaced with pretty standard battery packs which is a huge plus for me. Hope you enjoy the rides!

FYI, you will burn out the motor or gear (it's one of those) if you start with too much assistance.
Makes sense. According to the article I linked, the limit was put on by the mfgs in order to provide longer distance. Thought I read somewhere that the 500w motors have quicker start up, which I guess would make sense if the motor is the limiting factor and smaller could burn out.

What ebike would you guys recommend for someone who is about 5'2". Most of the ebikes listed here seem to be for folks 5'6" or above?

Emailed customer support yesterday. What is the warranty with the bike and battery? Still no reply yet.

One of the step through ones, like the Acadia or Laguna.

Pretty easy to lookup a manual online nowadays.

After all of the exceptions, basically the frame is "useable life of bike" for the welds. Battery is 1 year and everything else is 6 months.

14 day return period if DOA

Possibly? Might have to just lean to one side when you're stopped. They do have an image of the bike's dimensions. You can compare that with your regular pants inseam for the standover height, as for seat height, find something that's 26" tall and sit to see where your feet end up being positioned.

One last thing about whether the bikes on Joyride are actual Hurley bikes, I emailed Hurley (not the customer service on Joyride). I asked them if the Joyride bikes are real, they responded:

"Thank you for contacting Hurley Online Support!

Yes, they are real. We are collaborating with Joy Ride."

Throwing my experience on here:

Ordered Hurley Big Swell 1000w bike on 8/21, received 8/29. I'm in southwest. Bike was packaged well, covered in tons of foam zip tied to keep it in place. Bike was mostly assembled, just needed handle bars and pedals put on (handle bar post was on backwards out of the box also). Charging to full from out of the box took about 3 hours. Tires already inflated.

According to the display I did 16 miles and used 25% of the battery bar on first ride. Speed was limited at 20mph / Pedal assist 5. Holding the top two buttons, "+" and "i" until the screen dimmed momentarily (About 2 seconds) removed the limit and allowed me to get up to 28mph. Turning off the bike or going back down to pedal assist 4 or lower put the limiter back on, and the process had to be repeated.

I had to retighten the handle bars once, but after that no issue. Pedaling while using pedal assist felt like I was basically doing nothing no matter what gear I was in. Had to turn it off to get anything resembling exercise.

Love the bike, happy with the purchase and packaging. Had a great time zipping around town. here. I can't comment on any hill stuff, it's totally flat here.

Have you tried going into the Parameter settings PO1-12? To change the limiter? Someone posted a few pages back that PO8 was the speed limit. If you change it there I wonder if it doesn't "reset" everytime you turn off the bike

I changed the speed limiter setting to 0 - unrestricted on my big swell and I did not gain any speed. I also enabled cruise but I haven't figured out how to "set" the cruise yet.
