Save a search on eBay for the cartidge number and wait for people to sell them at a good price. Typically they will be open box, but make sure the inner pouch is unopened. Should be the genuine Brother cartridge. Avoid the knock-offs if you can. I typically do this and grab one for a spare long before my original runs out.

I finally got a "compatible" toner set for my multifunction Brother color printer off Amazon because I hadn't realized I was that low on one color and couldn't wait. Didn't have any problems with it though.

Also, check to see if there is a high capacity cartridge for your printer. There are three different cartridges for the one I have, for each color! Brother lists a TN730 (1200 pages) and a TN760 (3000 pages) for this one.

These use toner cartridges, which offer many advantages over ink cartridges. They don't dry out or clog, last WAY longer than inkjet cartridges, and generics are $9-$15 on Amazon. The Canon ones last for 1500-2000 pages; the Brother ones last for 2500-3000 pages. I use the Greencycle brand and they've been awesome for many years.

My printer operating costs dropped to almost nothing when I switched from inkjets to lasers. And my printer frustration disappeared. Lasers are virtually trouble-free by comparison.

Brother doesn't have multifunction laser printers in this price range; you'd have to go with the Canon MF3010 for $99:

I strongly recommend the Brother over the Canon in this case. That extra $43.50 gets you wifi, auto duplexing, 32PPM print speed versus 19PPM, faster scanning, and an overall better built, more current, and longer lasting printer.

Yep just confirmed. This is the exact same model that I purchased. It is deceiving to put $250 for the list price in the wiki by the editor. Unless you are a horrible shopper you will not be paying anywhere close to $200 for this as $110 is the normal price. I know as I shopped for this model (and purchased it). My friend also purchased this exact same printer several months after me at this price as well. This is not a slick deal at all this is the going rate. It's not a bad printer and not a bad price, but absolutely deceiving to purchasers to mention $250.

This model has been around for 10-15 years under various model numbers but basically the same machine. I had mine for over 10 years and it still works fine.

You have a defective circuit breaker,,,these do not surge 15 amps plus.

That could be, but I have tried this in three rooms with 15A and same result. In the laundry with 20A it doesn't happen. I assume that a Kill A Watt device would help in diagnosing the draw ?

Edit - I got a very fast reply from Brother support and here is what they say about the current draw

Does this printer support air print? I have an older Brother model and it does not. You have to save files and then print from Brother app
