The Switch OLED's were selling for like $500+ during COVID and were impossible to find in retail stores. Not sure what you're talking about but this is as low as I've seen them.

They literally didn't even exist in 2005. Your comment is a real head-scratcher.

Hardware don't get worse with time. It will always play what it can play when you buy it. It will never "degrade" to the point that you can only play "tetris"

I kinda agree but they're not really comparable, people buy nintendo for the nintendo exclusives, there is no alternative

Do we get 5% back with Woot if we use Amazon prime card or is it only for Amazon stuff?

Yuzu and Ryujinx are Nintendo Switch emulators.
Get the Steam Deck and play everything including those Nintendo exclusives.
I'd rather just buy the switch and simply pop in a game so that my daughter, nephew or nieces can play. Or if I want to play Mario party with the whole family on the living room TV, the switch is as simple as docking it and plugging in an HDMI cable.

Why would I buy a Steam Deck and run emulators just to be able to play Nintendo exclusives? Doesn't make sense. 99% of people who want to play Nintendo games are going to buy a Switch and not run Nintendo emulators on a Steam Deck wtf lol. And I'm someone who has an order for a Steam Deck placed already.

Only problem is that you cannot play the games online. So single player games only. Not sure if you can connect Switch controllers to Steam Deck for local multiplayer

I loved the Switch for a few years but it's just ancient anemic hardware now. Time for a refresh, Nintendo

You're conveniently leaving out the moderately complicated rom dumping steps which require an early release switch and tool (or level of comfort jamming a paper clip into the rails) to boot into recovery mode, but I guess if you already have those it's an option.

Yeah until the hardware is useless and you can't play anything more than Tetris. I have to expend a few $k every year to keep my PC up to date, imagine a PC hardware based system that can't be upgraded, o sorry I forgot you just buy a new one every year.
If you "have" to spend ANY money EVERY year on your PC (other than buying new games, which doesn't affect whether you have a PC or a console), you either are just trying to keep up with the latest tech specs (which isn't even close to necessary) or you're doing something horribly, horribly wrong. Now add in the fact that you say you're spending over $1,000 every year on your PC...I think you just don't know what you're doing mate. Might not want to try to give out any advice on hardware.

I built a PC back in 2012 and still use it today to play games. I bought the best parts money could buy. Spent maybe $4k. Custom watercooling CPU / GPU triple radiator, etc. I'll probably build a new PC within the next year or so since it's been 10 years lol But yeah you definitely don't need to replace parts every year. I didn't replace anything for 10 years and it still works fine.

I kinda wish Woot would accept Amazon gift cards as I have $100 sitting in my account left over from the CC promo. I still have the launch Switch from 2017 and the OLED would be nice. I play mainly in handheld mode, rarely on the TV. Tons of games I need to play through that I have sitting

Really? Seems dubious. A few thousand a year? I built a PC in late 2017 that's had nothing upgraded since then except the SSD and it still plays most new games at high quality with no issues.

My entire point is that there ARE options. If you do or don't use those options is up to you, but they are there.

Yeah, the amount of Steam/Raspberry people on SD always comes across like a bunch of farmers coming into a Yelp thread saying "You know you can just grow your own food, right?" Wink

No offense intended at all, it's impressive, but it's gonna fall on deaf ears for this target market.

I'm busy AF and love that the kids have a reliable console to use. It's still way more hassle than 80s/90s consoles, but better than any of the DIY options. And it holds its value really well.
