If you simply watch a lot of video content, I think the Apple is worth it for the screen and speakers alone. But it is a tough premium to take.

Good point, I should use a mouse. My table is glass and they dont work well, then again I could buy a mouse pad.

1. How many hours of battery life do you get from it on average, in 2 scenarios:
a) just web browsing and YouTube videos, movie streaming, word processing, Excel (light duty tasks)
b) video editing, software development, gaming (more demanding tasks), use of virtual machines.
2. Does it ever run hot or just mildly warm?
3. Any degradation in performance over time? throttling?
4. What is the color gamut for this display? 100% dci-p3? 100% SRGB only?
5. Have you tried it with Thunderbolt 4 eGPU?

1. Regarding deciding between MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro base model ($1700 at BB recently),
whether it's worth another $600 depends on whether you value a larger 17" screen vs a
smaller one with true HDR capabilities (capable of much higher nits for HDR content),
probably a display with a wider color gamut (100% dci-p3 -- not sure what the Gram has),
single core scores comparable to a Ryzen 6000 mobile CPU and multi-core scores
comparable to the lowest performance rung Intel i7-12700K laptops (I tested a Lenovo 7i
2-in-1 16" which was capped at a Cinebench R23 score of 12500-13000, which is close to
M1 Pro score), whether you like the Apple ecosystem and could benefit from its
advantages that come from tight integration and synergy with other Apple products you
may own (and live with its disadvantages), whether battery life, low heat and low noise
are of utmost importance to you, and whether the apps you want to run are supported on
M1 architecture.
I can tell you M1 Pro 14" base model is an impressive all-around package. Very polished, industry leading speakers and display w/ 120hz, multiple TB4 ports, MagSafe. The Gram will be lighter and give you more screen real estate.
If you ever want to replace the battery, it may be easier on the Gram, although possible on
MacBook Pro 14. Supposedly they've made it a bit user friendlier this year, but being able
to source an OEM replacement battery may be a while. I'm not sure, but the Gram may
have a replaceable SSD, so you can upgrade to 2TB down the road without issue, if so.
The RAM may or may not be soldered so you would want to buy what you need up front.
2. This Gram 17 display is matte finish, so no glare! It is not a touch panel, and almost all
touch panels are glossy, so if you don't like that, you'll have to forgo touch.

if you've recently used an apple product that has their "anti reflective coating", it makes a world of difference
comparing my samsung galaxy tab s8 to my apple ipad air 5, the brightness is the same, yet glare/reflection handling is SO MUCH better on the air since the actual screen is just easier to see due to less glare
so i'd just like to ask, how does this product do with glare/reflection handling?
