Future proof is like a unicorn. It doesn't exist!

Back in the 1980s I bought my first computer. Ted wait, the president of gateway computers back then said he couldn't think of a reason why anyone would need larger than 100 MB hard drive. Yes megabyte. I thought I would future proof and spend the extra $ to get 125 MB. That also was a 32 bit machine. And it had both the 3 1/2 inch and 5 1/4 inch floppy drives. USB nor optical drives existed. And then there's my dotmatrix printer that ran off of a parallel port… Which no longer exists on current PCs. This set up cost me about $2000 Back then.
I'm going to say yes and no. You'd want to add another 8GB stick of ram, upgrade to a way better gpu(minimum a RTX 3080 or equivalent for 4k), and get a better 800w Gold Rated Power Supply(Seasonic, Corsair, EVGA, SuperFlower). I also remember this case getting bad airflow/thermals and being called a "microwave." I'll even consider getting a 5600x or better CPU if the motherboard supports it. At that point you have almost replaced 90% of the parts in this pc. I recommend this for people who would be happy at high settings 1080p. Slap an extra 8GB stick of ram and a Vetroo V5(it's always recommended for this case, regardless of CPU).
Thank you. Seems like a great deal for an solid entry to gaming. Just add some more memory and it should play most games at a decent FPS.

So basically don't buy this pc and replace nearly main part. What do you recommend for nearly 1K prebuilt or just make one?

Same. Would it really be that bad to add it in and get 24 gigs of ram?

So bought this. Before even turning it on it transferred everything to my old antec atx case. anyhow i would like to upgrade ram, what is everyone is doing for that? it comes with Hynix 8gb 3200 ddr4, but search on amazon shows some stupid price $60 or something for another 8gb, so what would be best way to proceed?

also would it benefit from buying 3600 or 4000 ram instead of 3200 it comes with?

thanks!

1660 Ti should be enough to do very playable VR. Air link imho is still a bit wonky if you're trying to do the connect from PC to VR wirelessly.

If anyone replaced the memory in this I'd be interested in buying the single stick.

I am looking for a desktop for work. I am not looking for a gaming PC. I do research so I have a lot of tabs going at the same time. I use MS 365, mostly word, PowerPoint, and Excel the and internet mostly. I also use 3 monitors. Would this computer be good for me? If not does somebody have a different suggestion? My price range is 500-1000 range. I prefer to buy from Costco due to the ease of return if something goes wrong but that is not a requirement.

Thanks

I have another version of this exact case and it was a hot box. But easily fixable. Gutted the front cover and installed a front PWM intake fan. Also if it comes with two left panels use the metal one with holes as the CPU fan will then blow out the side. Also remove all the spare slot covers in the back. Elevate the case on all four corners.

Also I mounted a CPU tower fan so the air blows out the back of the case with a separate PWM fan controller and rear case fan with a PWM fan. Had to use some spacers on the glass side pannel to get the room I needed. Mine had a cheap micro MOBO but usable. No BIOS settings for fan speed and no xemp (intel system).

Get rid of the ASUS bloatware up front. It does weird stuff in the background with your CPU temps.

1660 TI is a fine mid level game card. My intel i5 CPU did not have a built in GPU.

Also upgraded the m.2 that came with it and installed one in the spare slot.
When you say gutted the front cover. What did you do to it exactly. Looking to get this for my son. Not real familiar with gaming PCs. The heat and case was my concern, no air flow from the front.
Thanks
