This is "cheap/budget" version. Multimeter is 300 model not 320, contactless tester doesn't have LED light option, outlet tester doesn't have LCD or GFCI test button, so maybe for some it is better deal because of the price but it's not the same as the $45 option deal nevertheless. In addition if you add $5.99 for shipping then it becomes even less of a bargain compared to $45 set, otherwise one would have to spend $45 anyways to get it shipped for free.

I have been an electrician for 35 years. Not once have I needed a low voltage reading non contact tester to troubleshoot a fan or a light or a switch. Its purpose is solely to warn you there is a live circuit so you can proceed safely. This is a basic homeowners set not a Cadillac.

And if you continue to barely use it at all, it will probably continue to not let you down.

This is correct. The non-contact tester in this version does not separate low vs high voltage. This is important when you work with any ceiling light/fans that is wired to a dimmer or lighted switch. It will give you a false read. Also the test plug in this version does not do GFCI check. This function is helpful when you need to trace a GFCI circuit to the breaker, or even just to test the GFCI. I would recommend spending a little more for the amazon kit.

Thanks to my job I've only ever used Fluke mms and there's quite a big price difference between the two. Is Fluke really that much "better" or is it simply another one of the you're paying more for the name and not the quality.

All I can say is I've had my $5 ebay/China Special multimeter for about five years and it's never let me down, lol. Still running on the same battery too!
