You have to pay monthly subscription for smart notifications like human alerts for any TPLink branded cameras (Tapo and Kasa). I'm highly invested in Kasa switches and reading news about TPLink not investing to Kasa products anymore concerns me. I hope they don't shut down Kasa services. For those reasons (current subscription model & Kasa's unknown future), I'm not going to invest to Tapo products.
- Lorex (purchased from Costco) is my outdoor camera solution.
- Eufy is my indoor camera and doorbell solutions.
- Kasa is my smart switch solution currently.

I purchased a kasa smart video door bell and it provides person detection alerts through the app. I have a microSD installed and 24/7 local recording on. Not disagreeing just providing my specific case. The kasa app when I first started using the doorbell only sent motion alerts and I believe an update added in sound and person detection options for notifications (notifications as in alert banners/ iPhone notifications)

The first comment is not correct, but a misunderstanding about AI. I know some Tapo cameras with local storage have Person Detection AND notify you. What they lack without subscription is Rich Notifications. That means instead of just text notification when a person is detected, you also get a snapshot of the activity before opening the app. This is logical because cloud storage can access and send the image, whereas micro-SD storage has no sending ability unless you open the app.

As other have stated the kasa app allows notifications for person detected. When you click on it, you go into the app and then gotta go to local storage 24/7 recording and it has screenshots with person detection events and motion detection events which allow you to jump to the time on the recording it happened. All this is without subscription. I would presume it's the same for the tp link app
