The Deep Sea sequel does have a stronger randomization element, but also slightly increased setup complexity. I think both games are great and that you'll get a similar experience whichever you choose.

The Crew is a clever scenario-based trick taking card game in the vein of Euchre or Bridge. Instead of a player or team just trying to win the most cards, though, certain players will be assigned "missions" to collect/avoid particular suits/face values — with limited communication — and everyone wins or loses together. Each scenario takes only a few minutes to play through, but there's some randomization (beyond shuffling/dealing hands) to keep things fresh. I highly recommend it.

I heard the new one is better, but its double the price of this deal. Does anyone know if its worth just getting the newer one?

It can be played as a 2 player game as well with a mild modification.

I'll second this. If they were the same price, I'd buy The Deep, but it's like a 7/10 vs 7.5/10.

I wouldn't say each game only takes a few minutes, more like :15-:30.

It starts to get pretty tough and I'm not sure 10 year olds would quite get it.

#5 in the family category. #48 overall. That's very high for a game under $10.

I played this last week and it was a huge hit. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys hearts, spades, or euchre... But wants the variety of phase 10 and a cooperative game is good.

I got this on a deal this last winter and just started playing this week as our family is on a board game kick right now. Our boys are 5 and 7 and we are enjoying playing. The early missions are extremely simple so it eases you in and then they become more challenging by adding more tasks and/or limitations. So far the rules are simple enough for our kids to follow. It's also nice to have a coop game in the mix since our 5 year old still struggles with losing.

I am playing this in a 3 person group. We get together every few weeks and play several missions. (There is a mission book to work through). The first 10 are easy and then it starts to get more difficult. Some mission will have to be attempted several times to complete successfully. This is certainly a favorite of ours. Great small group game.

I recommend starting with this one. When you complete this one move on to the newer one. Both are really fun and challenging. The skills you develop with this edition will help you later.
