Question: Why would Amazon go trough the trouble of posting fake comments and screenshots showing $15 redemption to get people to cancel orders, when they could just cancel orders themself?

Not doubting the possibility, but pretty sure Amazon has much more efficient tools to cancel orders on the backend than trying to play psychological games with customers to get them to cancel them on the frontend.
Simply because the people who screwed up there likely don't have authority to cancel orders.

"We're currently experiencing longer than normal wait times. We're sorry about this. If you're contacting us to check on the status of your order, you can get that information by going to www.amazon.com/your-orders"

Lmao because of us?

Okay pay attention all. I ordered a bunch and got the first one delivered a few minutes ago as I'm surrounded by Amazon watehouses. Scanned the card and it has ZERO balance! On phone with Amazon now so be ready when you gets yours. Good luck to everyone else, got a feeling this is going to get ugly.
Yeah, I cancelled my order when I saw that it said "Denomination: 0" on the product page after ordering, and after it went out of stock. It decreased the odds in my mind of actually getting $20 substantially. Good luck to everybody else, but not worth it in my mind having to deal with customer service especially related to exploiting an error.

There's is plenty of incentive for parties to try and fool people here. It would be foolish for people to blindly believe people on the internet.
You're pretty pushy for someone who is asking for a favor from someone else. You can believe what other people are saying or not, but no one owes you anything, including their time and effort to satisfy your demands. People here are generally helpful, but they (for the most part) do it out of kindness. Take it or leave it.

Personally, after I saw the order confirmation show $15 and going back to the GC page, it showed that I previously ordered "Denomination: 0," I thought it wasn't worth it, so I ditched and cancelled. If it works out for others in the end, great, but in the end, I make my own decisions and take responsibility for it. If I miss out this time because of it, oh well.

Just cancelled all 600 gift cards......too much hassle to fight for a return or the correct amount for that many.

I did type in $15. I got an error that said the min amount is $20.
Quote from Ardrid :
You can't even do that much. If you type in $15 for a custom order, it'll return an error saying that $20 is the minimum denomination.
Even better. Thanks.

I highly doubt Amazon employees are here. But people trolling and farming karma? Absolutely.

**Edit, now it finally scanned again and it came in at $15. Trying for 20 with customer service.

Its $5 each. If you bought 100 then you are arguing about $500 which is a different thing.
Right, I'm going to shell out $1,500 in the hopes that I'll maybe get $500. I'd rather invest that $1,500 that can actually grow than hope their customer service comes through. Not arguing, just think there is a better use of funds. Hope you get it, for whatever you bought.
