The product page and manufacturer website seem to disagree.

This also sports the inverter, which is super energy efficient. I bought the small 8K BTU, U shaped model from Sam's earlier in a deal this summer and am really impressed with how little power it uses. In my tests with a Kill-a-Watt, it runs on high at 950 watts, but once a room is cooled down, idles at half that power draw. The 12k BTU numbers will be higher, but really impressed with this tech and Midea AC units are NYT Wirecutter top pics.
It does have heat, I bought one. I drove 2.5 hours to a different Costco just to get it for our 200 sq ft cabin. We have a wood stove and it will roast us out sometimes at night so I thought this would be nice combo to have. I had bought a 5000 btu air conditioner from wallie world and it didn't even blow cool air out so I found this one and drove to get it. It just had gone $60 off so that was nice and they only had 2 left and I took one. It works good on both settings. It was set at 70 and hubby didn't know he'd put it on auto so it used heat and air to keep it at 70 all night. There is cool, heat and auto.

Comparing this to Hisense 8000 BTU for 190 also at Costco, or Midea 8000 BTU U-Shaped for 300 at BJs, any inputs? Have never purchased window AC before.
The Hisense is junk and not nearly as efficient.
Whatever you save initially would be eaten ina year on electricity. As for the Mideas, it depends on your usage. The 8k U will be quieter and cost less to run, but this one is 12k and will cool (as well as heat) 200 more square feet.

I have this and it is great...we are in tx, bought this to take a load off our central ac in this crazy heat (thermostat is in a room with a west facing window ie..gets warmer than other rooms) we have 1 large central unit outside in a 4600sq ft home. cools our 300 sq ft bedroom very fast and ice cold. very easy install. haven't tried the heat. my impression it is really designed for warm california style winters. I want one for another room, but the window faces the front of the home. great buy imo.

Picked one up a few weeks ago when my central A/C broke and it did way better than expected. Was able to cool down ~1300sqft to 72 degrees with 95 degree outside temps.

Have one same from Sam's club, no heat
So you don't have the same one then clearly. I have this one from Costco and it does have heat.

Which makes the heater part useless, unless your a 75 years old with bad circulation.

It's a heat pump, so there's diminishing returns the colder it gets outside. This is more meant for supplemental heat like a space heater for in between seasons. Heat pumps can be exponentially more efficient than your average space heater because they are not generating heat, but collecting it and transferring it.

Its cool that it's an included option, but I can't imagine anyone buying it specifically for the heater feature. If this is your only heating solution, you're doing it wrong.

It is an ok machine. Very annoying when you cycle through the Modes you have engage the heater to get to the Cool mode. The top vent seems destined to break with no protection.

I have the U shaped version of this AC as well as a costway 110v split unit, both rated at 12k BTU. The Split is waaaaay quiter to teh point i can not hear it on low and barely on medium. The Costway mini split cools the room very very fast, but for the same room it consumes a larger amount of energy to cool despite being of a higher SEER rating. I would stil use minisplits in places i can, the freeign up of my windows and beign nearly silent help tremendously.
Sure the split unit frees up a window but at the cost of making a hole in your wall leading to the outside unit. Not exactly an easy trade.

My home central unit is on its last leg. I got a quote for $6k for a new one. I might just buy 5 of these and put it in my windows. How hard is it to install these?

Is your house one giant room because that doesn't seem possible with just a window unit?

Will they fit in horizontally sliding windows? The majority of the windows in my neighborhood slide horizontally.
