I've also replaced some of the light switches with the lutron dimmer switch which helps eliminate the confusion of never turning off the light switch.
It's also far more responsive compare to some of the wifi lightbulb I've tired/use.
The reliability, consistency, and convenience is worth it to me especially when it's on sale. I go for the white ambiance since I almost never use the color.
IMHO, the Hue products have enough features and reliability to command a premium over the generic cheap bulbs. How much of a premium is a personal decision. Some of the things I like about Hue, in addition to all the typical things like color, dimming, variable color temperature, etc:
They use Zigbee, not WiFi
Local control (Hue Bridge or via Bluetooth) works when internet is down or servers unavailable
Can use them with other Zigbee controllers if you don't want a Hue Bridge
Groups of lights can fade on/off at precisely the same time - useful for multi-bulb fixtures
Cloud service available for remote access, but it's not required
Integrates with just about every Voice Assistant (Google, Alexa, Siri, etc.) and home automation system I've seen.
Lights can remember their last state before power interruption and restore that state when power comes back
Hue app is well designed and pretty much "just works"
Motion sensor batteries last multiple years
Motion sensors and remotes have very fast (< 1 sec) response times. No meaningful delays vs. using a wall switch.
Colors are consistent among different Hue products (bulbs, strips, gradient strips, etc.)
Things I don't like about Hue:
They're expensive, even with a "deal"
They're really expensive at MSRP
They make my wallet sad.
They're not a standard A19 shape, which makes them not work with some lamp shades that clamp to the bulb

On most of the reviews I have read, the difference was hard to tell between old model and newer model higher lumen bulbs.
My kids use it in the den to sync with their gaming machine. The lights match the scene. Music too. Pretty responsive.
In my personal experience, I have around 40 smart bulbs in my house of different types. The only ones that have consistently worked and never seem to de-sync, etc, are the hue bulbs. They just work and now I just buy them when they're on sale versus trying to save more on off brand bulbs from amazon.

In my opinion, yes. Especially when you have people who are less tech savvy in the house. Hue lights just work with or without internet. I don't need to worry about family member calling me because the light isn't turning on or something.

I learned this the hard way after spending hundreds on feit electric bulbs and other brands. You can ONLY control the scenes directly on their apps, not through any automated triggers.
Apparently (and stupidly) it's up to each and every manufacturer to enable or disable how many functions you can control from zigbee or alexa, even if the bulb natively supports it.
Hue is the only bulb I've seen that consistently supports every single feature universally.
Cost of my current setup is 24 bulbs x $5 per bulb so it would cost about 600 to upgrade everything everything to hue. ouch.
Can you please share how you do this?
