SSD Upgrade:
This laptop has a single M.2 2242 slot that you can install a good SSD to get a significant increase in performance for daily usage as compared to the crappy eMMC.
Recommendation to get best performance:
Since the system (Windows OS) is slowest running on the crappy on-board 64GB eMMC, I would highly recommend to clean install Win10 via bootable USB to the new SSD and wipe the 64GB on-board drive,
- or if you do not want to do that:
---- download and install something like Mini Partition Wizard on the laptop, and copy/migrate the entire on-board 64GB storage to the new SSD which will copy everything (including Windows and recover partitions).
---- then go into the BIOS/UEFI settings and set the new SSD as the first boot device. And you can now wipe/format the crappy 64GB eMMC and use it as free storage for whatever.
Done.

On Windows 10/11, RAM compression is on by default if you enable swap (you'll see this in the Task Manager's Performance > Memory section). However, AFAIK, the Windows implementation requires storage backing and will periodically swap to disk (which is when you notice slowdowns the most).
On Linux, enable ZRAM swap with ZSTD compression (fast with a 1:3 - 1:5 ratio). The Linux implementation works much better than Windows. ZRAM swap does not need storage backing & will avoid slow swapping to disk. However, if you want, you can have a additional swap file on disk. Just set the ZRAM swap priority to 32767 so that it is used first. I recommend you set the size equal to 1.5 times your physical RAM. On a 4GB system this would be 6GB and you will get an effective ~8GB of RAM (2GB uncompressed + 6GB compressed).

If you are into gaming or video editing you need a much more powerful laptop/gaming laptop and lots of ram.
Casual user might find this slow with 4 gb ram for Windows 10/11. I mean 64 gig's storage in windows is not that great. ... I guess, maybe.
That is what we are discussing here, and the guys will either tell you what they would get (and they do xyz) and we have gamers and video editing guys.
We have others that are interested for kids in school, and older retired people who like to stay connected with what is going on.
I, personally would pass on this, with these specs for windows 10/11, ... these are chromebook specs ... maybe get a chromebook instead, or check on youtube too 10 laptops in budget.

This would be a significant upgrade. Throwaway laptops are kind of fun to use actually. No you cant have dozens of tabs open or do any real work. You do one thing at a time and close old tabs as you open new ones.
I do all kinds of tasks with that 2720 Passmark running Win 10 Ghost Spectre, from browsing websites to photoshop, edit videos, stream movies, etc.without any problems.
Unless the 64gb eMMC is significantly slower than my Kingston SV300S37A120G (which is also ancient and slow for an SSD), I don't see how this computer can be slow for daily tasks.
I admire your patience. I wouldn't deal with a machine so slow, and based on the comments, many others wouldn't as well. I think a lot is just tolerance for speed / slowdown and also, possibly, familiarity with faster speed.
I also don't think hacking Windows 10 is terribly wise (https://tech-latest.com/ghost-spe...e-version/) but I freely admit others have (ahem, violently) disagreed. To me this is the same as going around disabling services (and most people doing that have only the foggiest idea the implications) to make Windows XP or 2000 run in 1GB of RAM (or whatever the norm was at the time).
If you want a real lightweight OS, just run a Linux CLI. But don't turn off [your_OS_vendor] updates; I see that's an offer in GhostSpectre Win10 and I think that's a very, very bad idea.
