Not a hack and slash. You will die a thousand times a thousand times, but when the game finally clicks… You will get an extreme sense of pleasure and accomplishment playing and beating the game.

This game is extremely difficult. I found it to complex to even pass the 1st enemy
Needless to say I hated it (the first one). I thought since it was by Team Ninja it was like ninja gaiden. When I found out it was a souls like game I said forget it. Made it to the first boss and nope'd out.

It's similar to Dark Souls and Bloodborne games. Extremely difficult to play until you understand the mechanics of the gameplay.

So if you want all the extra stories after beating the game the season pass is $19.99 when not on sale.
I bought the complete edition on PC for about $30. IMO it's very worth it because I'm very interested in the Sengoku period in Japan history. I also liked the voice acting of Kinoshita Toukichiroby by actor Naoto Takenaka, who is very well known in Japan for playing the same character in the NHK drama Hideyoshi.
If you are familiar with the characters in the Samurai Warriors series and their stories, you may get to participate in historical events and potentially with famous samurais.
To me that adds a lot of entertainment value to this game.

But in Nioh 2 they actually offered alternative solutions that could lower the difficulty a lot.
You can hire a henchman planted by other players that could be potentially much more powerful than you to help you get through most of the tough fights, sometimes with minimal efforts on your end, until you acquire more powerful gears and higher level skills.
In later stages you even get to partner with famous samurais and ninjas who will never permanently "die"(you can revive them with a mouse click unlimited times), they are a huge help in grinding for gears and levels.
I'm pretty bad at soul-like games but I managed to get through new game+4.
To me this game is really closer to Diablo than Dark Souls and I enjoyed it more than I expected.
Just not for me. I really don't mind difficult games either, and I get the satisfaction thing. These games are just too punishing for me. Been playing the YS series and some of those games get pretty tough, as well as I LOVE Ninja Gaiden 1/2, and the bosses in that game can get pretty crazy too.
