question.. how does it compare to this one?

They are the same model but Costco one faster CPU but lower screen resolution. I would go with Costco one.
The Costco one also has a Realtek Wi-Fi 6 adapter instead of the 6E MediaTek in the one in the OP. I have the one from Costco, and I'm constantly having to reset the adapter to restore connectivity, but from the other remarks in this thread, the MediaTek is garbage, too, and the best option for both would be to replace it with an Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6e card.

The 1920x1200 screen resolution on the Costco one is perfectly fine on this size display for my use case. If configuring one at HP, I would skip the $30 upgrade to a 2560x1600 screen.

This has been my favorite laptop to date. Light and compact. Screen is the best feature and hard to find a better one on a laptop this size and price. I got the size core, 16gb 2k display. About 6 months in. No USB C charging but otherwise nice laptop.

The lenovo from Costco is a better deal any day. Better processor and screen. And lenovo reliability. Backed by Costco warranty.

Misc comparisons: Lenovo's are nice, and the ryzen 7 is a nice upgrade. The vega gpu is definitely fine for minecraft and roblox, and I'm guessing ok fortnite based on the recommended and minimum specs on epic's website. Personally, i would go for the higher screen resolution. First, it's cheap for a premium feature. Second, just to futureproof the purchase. Also, for some very technical softwares, more real estate benefits the user. For example, video and audio editing, where there are lots of tools, meters, panels on the screen at once, there's more space for all those items. These are not value line or budget laptops, they are midrange. For college students, any of these, including the ryzen 5, would be a very nice option. Only a technical student with very specific tasks would really use the ryzen 7. Some students would insist this wont do as they need nvidia graphics, but that would almost certainly be they want it for better gaming, or video encoding features, which nvidia does better - unless they can cite a specific scientific program made for nvidia acceleration, but 99% have an AMD accelerated variant as well. The Lenovo IdeaPads are not memory upgradeable after purchase. The yoga's and thinkpads may be. The HP's are usually memory upgradeable. You can buy the 256gb ssd and replace it with your own, if you want to get a specific ssd, usually at a better price as well. the skhynix p31 is a great option goes on sale of amazon all the time.
I got the Lenovo w

I wish they give an option for touch screen, I know lots of people don't need touch screen, but it's a must if I have to give to my kids.
I was trying to get it for my college kids, without touch screen, they don't touch this one.
