Thanks OP, with the Extra30 code I grabbed some sneakers for $70. Worth giving a try at that price and AE has free returns for non-factory seconds so no risk.

$83 on a pair of good quality hiking shoes is a steal!!! Shame I don't know my size, so now I have to purchase 3 of both colors. 6 pairs of boots here we come.

I have dozens of Allen Edmonds, mostly factory seconds. They may have slight imperfections that may or may not be visible to you. Think a stitch that isn't "perfect" or a mark somewhere. Generally these imperfections - even if they are visible when you get them - would blend in quickly during normal wear. I've only ever sent back factory seconds twice - one on a white belt that had a black mark, and one for some shoes that had a few imperfections that made me suspect the shoe was a dud. Honestly, odds are with most seconds you won't notice it.

The imperfections ARE there, for sure. I've had many 2nds and here are examples:
1. There is a very dark 1/2" rectangular spot on a pair of brown boots where they basically let the dye brush hang way too long.
2. the last on the left shoe is off-center from the upper. This was a major issue as you will walk funny as a result. I should have returned it, and they should not have tried to sell it.
3. bunch of stitching "spikes" inside the upper. I was able to fix by carefully filing them down.

Free shipping over $99 for me. Coupon works on the non factory 2nds as well. Just go to sale, put in size, the sort from least expensive, AE is great, and most of their stuff is made in the USA.
