Traeger was sold in 2006 when their patent for pellet grills expired. It was sold again in 2014 to a venture capital fun, who's sole goal was to minimize costs (while also increasing pricing) and get it ready for an IPO launch of the company.

They use to be all build in Oregon, but the new owners shut down operations and moved everything to China and changed everything to thin steel production to save on costs. Basically they are overpriced shit now.

The inventor and founder of Traeger now designs Louisiana Grills.

Traeger....not the same quality as other companies. Traeger was the inventor but other brands have come up with better designs and heavier steel lids.

Camp Chef makes some good stuff. Way cheaper and Way better than Traeger.

Go to Trageger forums and the many that wish they had other brands.

From my experience, searing with a pellet smoker is extremely wasteful from a pellet perspective and would be a feature to live without. I personally fire up the propane grill when needing to sear.

At Sams, without their free shipping, they want $177 for shipping to Illinois.

ZGrills used to make Traegers. Bought the ZGrill 450a when it came out and it was fantastic but a little small.

Now I have the 10002B and tempted to buy this one once it gets back into stock.

Need it to sear. The 450F max temp is a NO GO for me.

Anyone have the Weber smokefire? Leaning toward that even with the hefty price tag.
