what do people do with 8 year old Mac Minis?
Home theater media box?
Install some other Linux distro on it?
Leave it to Apple to still be overpriced 8 years later 😂

The processing power is still good enough to run multiple browsers.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. These were sold up to 2017 (still that is 5 years ago). I have an I5 2014 with a SSD that I bought in 2018 (new) and my wife has a M1 - Is her's better? Absolutely. I can't justify upgrading my Mini for what I use it for (you tube, web, email, banking, etc). Would I buy this instead of a M1 (or M2) - no. Would I recommend this to someone who wants to try out a mac using a very inexpensive machine -yes. Only question would be the prior life of these machines - however the Allstate warranty at least addresses the 1st year.

This could be ideal for older parents/relatives who need a computer to do basic web/email/etc., and can't operate a windows machine longer than 30 minutes without getting viruses.
That's the situation I was in probably around 2014. Bought a Mac Mini, and haven't had to clean up an infection since.
Note: this plan will not work for pre-teens and teens. Those kids could find a way to get viruses on a calculator...I swear....

There are a few things you can still do with them, although nothing of huge value. You can install Windows or use a piece of software called OpenCore to install newer versions of Apple's operating system onto older Macs.
This could be beneficial in a few different ways, but without knowing your circumstances, could be tricky to suggest.

Thanks OP. Evidently 1460 people who bought it are interested. It makes a GREAT headless server.
I have one already and use this as a media server and a network time machine backup. The good thing about this machine is that with 16GB of on board memory that cannot be replaced, it can be upgraded to an internal NVMe drive AND an internal SATA drive. So I have a 2 TB NVMe drive that is set up as a fusion drive to a 2 TB M500 SSD that I re-allocated to this machine (having already used it for 5 years), So 4 TB of very fast storage holds my movies and music. Its small and doesnt use that much power when on, so you can put it almost anywhere. Also, I have it connected via IP over thunderbolt 2 network to my main mac to transfer movie files and backup. Transfer speed via thunderbolt network is 10Gbit - a single thunderbolt 2 cable is much cheaper than 10GEnet + switch. Only downside is that it will not run the Ventura OS after it is released this fall. So it will only get another 2-3 years of security updates. Its the last Mac mini that one can upgrade internal storage. I am tempted to get another...
Forgot one important thing - the system is headless - no monitor, mouse, keyboard needed, runs remotely and is accessed via remote desktop and is dead silent. There is nothing I know of that has the combination of form factor, performance, stability, quietness and cost. I looked.

I use them for all kinds of things. They are still rock solid hardware and can run the latest Mac OS. Plus, unlike the newer ones you can upgrade them. I use them for video and audio editing, media centers, workstation desktops, just about anything in a busy commercial environment.
There's a lot to like about this unit and $239 for a specific-use Mac Mini is perfectly fine. This would be great for a Plex box.
But calling this "refurbished" is a little iffy (maybe a lot iffy). More like "used for 8 years then we decided to sell them"... SSD wear could be an issue - you really have no idea at all how these were used.
