The initial yield rate when mass production started earlier in Fall of last year was 50% and they rapidly improved the yield rate to 85% which is much faster than LG which took them several years for their WOLED tvs. Not to mention the fact that Samsung Display only has one gen 8.5 line producing 30,000 substrates a month compared to LG display with 90k substrates a month. OLED tvs will get cheaper due to economies of scale, so we can see the price of QDOLED go even lower than the price of current WOLED if production capacity is increased.

We will most likely see Samsung Display announce by Q4 of this year or Q1 next year that they'll expand capacity to produce 60,000 substrates per month given that that they sold off their last lcd fab and need to transition to another display technology as soon as possible.

In the long run, if Samsung finishes their research for QNED and irons out all the kinks to enable mass production, we will see an even better display technology. The eventual evolution of qdoled is to replace the oled backlight with leds and it would be a qd-microled/nanoled display which is what QNED is. The equipment for QNED/QDOLED is similar except the expensive deposition machines for OLED are not necessary for QNED so the conversion of qdoled to qned wouldn't be difficult and QNED's launch price should theoretically be cheaper than qdoled. Of course this is likely a couple of years away from now happening the earliest by 2025 or 2026.

They didn't so much nerf the brightness as they improved accuracy. If all you care about is brightness and not picture quality, then buy an LED instead of OLED and set it to Vivid mode.

I can't think of anything less in the spirit of what this forum is all about than this comment.
I'd wager that all of us have the money for most of these things at their retail price, but we are here for the deals. We all know that a dollar saved feels better than a dollar earned. And so with that in mind, your comment makes little sense.

This is their latest model (Samsung S95B) so why are there such steep discount so soon? Only the Sony A95K is better.
My understanding is they have increased their yield by a lot! This allows them to make them much cheaper than other regular OLEDs. This isn't common by any means, I bought last month and not counting cash back or store credit, cheaper by $430 or so. Samsung will not give you the difference if you are past 14 days from delivery date, so those who have purchased, you want to ask for that credit ASAP!

It's looking like EPP is 25% off while EDU is 20% off the currently discounted 2200 price. So if you can get it through EPP, you currently get the extra $110 off to get down to 1650 otherwise EDU will be $1760.

I really hate that the only way to get a good deal on this TV is with an EPP/EDU account.

Definitely tempting... with 65" QN90A still at $1190, probably pull the trigger at $1400. Appreciate the heads up!

2022 Samsung models are riddled with bugs and defects. Do some research on Reddit and AVS Forum before you pull the trigger.

This is a great TV; I have loved mine, and it's seriously brighter (especially re: color volume) than the two LGs I have.

That being said, you need to tweak the settings because it will be inaccurate out of the box, and it's bright/saturated enough that if you care about accuracy (and not everyone does, and that's totally fine!), you'll notice that it's off.

Finally, keep the firmware at 1211 and do not connect the TV to the internet at all until you've had a chance to read about the brightness changes and see if you care about it. I personally don't, but some people really do, and that's fine.

If you game on your TV, the S95B is literally unmatched. There's no better television on the market.

Such very new model and new tech. Wondering why they are slashing price this low. Any problem with this tv? Anyone knows?

I bought the tv last week and the tv is great. So far no issues watching all the movies. Right now what I can tell you about tv and just the overall consumer electronics industry is that they are heavily overstocked and slashing prices to bring their warehouses levels to a good place. You'll see better prices in the weeks and months ahead. I just had Samsung price match this price currently and will be doing so until I can't anymore.

I mean most of them have a bit of a bend to the screen being they are so thin (mine also leans a touch forward), there are occasionally loud popping sounds due to the plastic expanding/contracting with heat, they dropped peak brightness from 1,500nits to 1,000nits for 5% and smaller highlights after v1211, Tizen is just an awful OS, it doesn't have a polarizer so in bright rooms blacks aren't super black (though reflection handling is great) and there are some weird issues with 7.1 LCPM over eARC just not working (5.1 is fine) and there might be issues with 5.1 LPCM on Xbox (don't have one, but heard talk)

That all said, I'm definitely enjoying picture the colors and viewing angle are insane (yes even for an OLED)

The way this is trending, I'm super curious to see pricing in November. Also curious whether the pricing is opportunistic in the moment — for what I don't know (e.g., too much supply, global economic slowdown) — or strategic, such as getting as many of the new-tech-OLEDs out there to establish market dominance for this type of tv. As this relatively low pricing is only edu/epp, maybe this is also a mechanism for assessing market response. In any event, it seems as though pricing is getting spicy for OLEDs.
