Honest question - who is playing 8K video on their TVs? I'm all for future-proofing, but this seems a little extreme. Maybe I'm missing a non-obvious benefit. I've barely played any true 4K video on my TV.

Gamers need the bandwidth to support the high frame rate / high resolution consoles and video cards, specifically 4K/120fps games. 48Gps may also be needed to reliably support features like VRR and eARC. There is no 8K video content for consumers, yet.

Thanks, but why isn't the cable just rated as 4K/120? Isn't 8K overkill? Or did the market just move on, and 8K, and the frame rate, just make it the best, cheapest option?

They rolled all improvements into the latest HDMI 2.1 cable spec, so they wouldn't have to create a new HDMI standard for 8K video alone. It's confusing enough as it is (Ultra High-Speed, Premium High-Speed, High-Speed, ....). Confused

Thanks all. It's sad, because I used to be all up-to-date, and in the "industry", but the "industry" is moving faster than I can keep up. Anyway, thanks for the education.

It's not HDMI 2.1 certified (adding for clarity). Certified cabled are generally expensive.
Non-certified ones may not work properly in some cases.

6 foot 3 pack is just $9.50. coupon code works. It's the shipping that kills this deal for me.

url still goes to 3 pack. select 6 pack

The certified version of this cable is also on sale - but only for 15% off, and you only get to choose between a 1 or 5 pack. Code also works to stack on top. Comes out to $38.28 for a 5 pack, or ~$7.66 a cable. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=42678

Showing $23.44 for me, but the 6ft cables are $8.74.

I suppose it's a better deal, but I wanted 3ft.

The coupon code shows expired.
