The sweet spot for this model seems to be at least 16GB of ram and at least a 512gb SSD. Benchmarks show that an order M1 Air was comparable to the M2 with only 8GB, but with the 16Gb, the M2 really made a difference. Also the 512GB ssd has an extra channel and is faster than the smaller ssd's. The best bang for your buck is a M2 Air with 16gb of ram and at least a 512gb ssd.

Quick note for anyone running virtualbox for VM's, the arm based processor have compatible issues virtualbox VM's built with non-arm OS. Be sure to check before purchasing if you rely on VirtualBox VM's.

Best bang for your buck is the 8GB 256GB model. It is sufficient for most of the targeted users.

Bare minimum is 8/512. If you don't plan on going with at least that you might as well get the m1. Unless... You really want the new colors and magsafe.

How critical is 2TB of onboard storage? You can get the Pro 14 base for $1749 and it would be much faster and more capable, but depends if that huge storage is mandatory for you.

Ty for taking the time to respond. We take a lot of photos and videos. I just got an iPhone with tb and it didn't make sense to me not to have a laptop with more storage. I was even considering an iPad Pro with keyboard. The Mac I order won't be here for a another week so I have a little time to change my mind. Never had a Mac before.
