As for Ninja coffee makers, I had the very first version of this, while I loved it it had its problems with leaking and not brewing full pots after a while. Reading online this seems to be a common occurrence back then, I don't hear as much about those issues anymore so I am guessing they corrected those issues. My first ninja was a glass carafe as well which I did not like as much as the metal.
At this price I am a little tempted even if it is refurbished. Keep in mind this model does not have a frother is that matters to you.

Reducing your exposure by not buying plastic, it's the equivalent of me handing you a towel to dry off while you're in the ocean and the world is already underwater.
As long as you're literally not eating physical plastic and going out of your way to melt plastic and styrofoam into your food, that's as good as it gets. You're still ingesting plastic regardless.
Are your clothes made of polyester? If it is, your breathing that in as well. Dust and lint isn't just dead human skin. It's plastic!
edit: I should also acknowledge that nobody freaked out. it was an exaggeration in my part to illustrate a point I was making
It's very beneficial to realize that even incremental changes can create vastly different outcomes.
If people are concerned about plastics, they very much can limit their exposure by choosing metal, glass, cotton, etc. No need to talk people into not trying at all. Even those minor changes can shift their mindset and bleed into other areas of life.
Youtube Ninja 5 beep of death.
After 5 cycles, you can go ahead and finish with the Flush/Rinse cycle
If you have really hard water, you might preemptively do a mega cleaning every 4 months BEFORE the warning light even comes on.
Just something to consider: if you have hard water like I did, calcium build up will do a number to the internals.

- The most important thing to do before making any coffee in it is to run the High Altitude calibration cycle. I failed to do that at first, and it caused brew cycles to take much longer and the coffee to taste off no matter what other variables I tweaked, simply due to over-extraction.
- I use filtered water only, because hard water is bad on both the machine and on flavor.
- I changed the setting for drip stop to allow an extra minute for coffee to drip out of the beans before the cycle completes.
- I use a burr grinder to ensure consistent grind and flavor.
- It brews very hot, and the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for multiple hours, and warm even until the end of the day.
- The machine is easy to clean. Four total parts, a simple bottle brush does the trick.
- The flavor of the coffee is very good if you get the grind and water-to-bean ratio right.
Personally, I think it's worth the money if you appreciate a good cup of black coffee, and it also improves the flavor of crafted coffee drinks.Edit: then original metal filter lasted about 4 years and we replaced with a generic from Publix.

Using descaler it took five weeks for the light to turn back on. I now do monthly cycles with vinegar, and descaler every six months.
