What I got from the post above was if you were trying to set up some wireless speakers or a subwoofer that didn't have a cable running from the TV you would not be able to pass through the sound over the optical cable without splitting it before it went into the transmitter / receiver. It doesn't allow the audio coming from the optical cable to "passthrough"

so spdif would go from say the TV to the transmitter and then a soundbar transmitting to a subwoofer across the room.

It can't pass through the transmitter and transmit the signal at the same time so he had to get a splitter before it went to the transmitter
Can you explain in layman terms? For example if the use case is I want to connect this device to a TV so that two viewers can listen simultaneously the dialogues from netflix series playing on a TV. Each viewer wears a bluetooth headphone. What are the limitations you are trying to tell?

Good price but reviewer says "I had to purchase a SPDIF active splitter to feed both, as this device does not provide SPDIF feed through." Very annoying when these devices don't do simultaneous TX + passthrough.

Is this capable of supporting 5.1? I have a 5.1 computer speaker system that I am trying to make Bluetooth compatible. I currently us a Mii Bluetooth but it is hooked up via rca cable and only play the two front speakers and sub.

For your application, based on the questions and answer section on MP, it appears this device CAN pair up to 2 receivers (2 headphones).. which means it should work for what you are planning on using it for.

quoted from the q&a section at monoprice
Does it transmit dual audio?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.

This item would allow you to pair two items to it at the same time.

Would this work okay for connecting to my car's aux port to use bluetooth while driving?
I know it's probably not meant for that, but I would keep a micro-usb charger plugged into it and only unplug on the very rare situation I need it.

From Monoprice Q&A:

Can this be used to add Bluetooth capability to a vehicle's factory audio system by leaving it connected to power and AUX on the vehicle? I plan on using it for phone calls and audio streaming from my phone while driving.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.

This could be used for that purpose.
Keep in mind this item does not have a mic built in so it may not work for phone calls.

There is no such thing as 5.1 channel Bluetooth. I don't think anything like that is even close to being able available. AFAIK there's nowhere near enough bandwidth/technical capability in current Bluetooth tech to do that.

I'm sorry for my ignorance but I've seen some really thorough answers on this app so here it goes...

I would like to upgrade my cell phone but my 12 year old car does not have Bluetooth. If I bought this, and my new phone did not have a wired headphone jack, coukd I use this to play my music through my car speakers? I think I read above that it would work but I'm not sure if I can power this through my cig lighter or if I have to hard wire it to my battery. I am not very tech savvy in my old age. Thanks in advance for any advice.

If your car has some type of aux audio input, it can work. Most likely a 3.5mm aux input (headphone style jack)

This device would be put into receiver mode, and then you hook up a 3.5mm aux cable from this device to your car audio input. You would need to pair your phone bluetooth to the device in receiver mode. Then the audio from your phone would send to the bluetooth receiver which will output via 3.5mm aux.

The device has a battery, so it does not need power while you're using it, but you will need to periodically charge it at least. That could be with a 12V/cig lighter type charger if you just want to leave it in the car, or you can bring into your home periodically to charge. Looks like it takes micro USB.

Your best bet will be getting a bluetooth fm transmitter. It connects to your car's lighter socket, it transmits FM freq which you can set your car radio to play and then you can connect your phones bluetooth to this device and now you have a modern car!

Search for a bluetooth fm transmitter on amazon and get whatever looks good to you. I think anker makes one too.
